Was looking for this type of info, what about the R's? Do they have one as their transfers haven't really been impressive.

All Wenger, who was constrained by the cost of the stadium for a while, but just cannot bring himself to spend since the restrictions have been lifted. Think that's one of the reasons the fans have been frustrated.

This lack of player investment possibly stems from Kroenke being in charge rather than Wenger himself?

From what I've heard, the money is there but Wenger doesn't want to pay a premium. Man of principles. Now the stadium is paid off they're taking in the money.

Why?

He prefers coaching to signing players. He has never handled a contract negotiation in his life. He thought Fergie was calling to 'tell him he has taken one of our players off him' .

Totally incorrect statement.

Spot on, he was also not keen on buying stones but the scout pushed for this. Plus a DOF needs to have world class communication skills. Moyes is an old fashioned manager.

...it appears Overmars was in the frame but that seems an age ago. Perhaps the two appointments are linked from an announcement position and we are going Dutch.

According to @The Esk we're in for Monchi but he isn't privy to developments beyond that. Would be a hell of a signing.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but the Monchi things strikes me as the same sort of thing as our interest in Mourinho

i.e. Great that we're showing a bit of ambition by trying to get these people, but ultimately probably unrealistic at the moment. Monchi is one of the biggest names in that role in Europe, albeit a role that gets less publicity than a head coach.

Still, I'd be absolutely delighted to be vaulted on this if he comes.

Don't think anything will be sorted on this until RK is done and dusted/announced.

I'd imagine that this could even stretch on into the next few weeks - in fairness as long as we get the manager in, there's no real rush.

You mean he trusted the word of a colleague from a scouting team he'd put together and signed a player he wasn't 100% convinced on......that sounds, errr like a positive thing for a director of football.

The reason people like me say he would be good in that role is that he built up:
(1) An excellent scouting team
(2) An excellent team of sports scientists / analytics teams
(3) A well regarded medical and fitness team
(4) Appointed excellent youth academy staff (and left them to get on with the job based on their expertise)
(5) Was a key driver in the Finch Farm project

A few years ago the club with articles being written about them for how they were working "smarter" against the richer clubs was us. Consistently outpeforming the financial position of the club is what every chairman wants. I don't think people realise how good we were at that and how that legacy was disrupted when Moyes left and key personnel followed (either with Moyes or resigned after Martinez left). A lot of Moyes teams were snapped up by Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd.

I'd happily have him back to oversee that side of the club but I very much doubt he'd be interested.
