Match Thread POSTPONED: Everton v Manchester City - Preview only

I have a feeling one of our players was invited (and not gone) to Kyle Walker's party or at least is a member on a WhatsApp group (Some England players maybe??) where it got mentioned & has said something to Everton management once the game got called off. It could be why Everton have taken thier stance. I could however be way off.
Still doesn't explain the Premier League & thier handling of all this though.
Edit: Now reading it's been made up by a Youtuber & gained traction.

Everton and Tottenham Hotspur were both left frustrated after their games against Manchester City and Fulham, respectively, were called off because a number of their opponents’ players went down with Covid-19 or symptoms of the virus.

The league’s action came as the Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta called for clearer rules about how matches are postponed because of Covid cases. Arteta said a new protocol should include a threshold for the number of fit players available and a cut-off point for the match to be called off.

The letter to the 20 clubs, from the Premier League’s chief executive Richard Masters, was in response to Everton and Spurs expressing anger at the lack of transparency surrounding their decision on their game. It urged the clubs to ensure the protocols around contact, cleaning, social distancing and maintaining their bubble are closely followed, and said decisions around postponements follow the rules laid down in appendix 17 of the Premier League’s rulebook, which deals Covid.

The letter added the decisions by the Premier League board to postpone the games were made late in the day because information on test results and players developing symptoms had only become available at that time.

Although the league’s rules say matches should be played if there are 14 players available to a club, the board can “permit the rearrangement or postponement of a league match in exceptional circumstances, which will be judged on a case-by-case basis”.

The letter explains that the board had received medical advice that there would have been a risk of Manchester City and Fulham players passing on the virus to their opponents if the matches had gone ahead.

Not that its really a proper explanation, more of a quote of their own rules, which infact are not the Rules as that quote highlighted proves they can just have rules that dont matter and can be changed any time

Not really an explanation just the FA saying sod off we will do as we please.

So basically no explanation whatsoever, just a pointless recap and as always no accountability. May as well have just said we just make the rules up as we go to suit whatever situation we need and if you don't like it well then that's just tough. When has it ever been any different tbh.

This is from the Wikipedia entry for Kyle Walker

‘On 5 April 2020, the club began a disciplinary procedure against Walker after it was reported that he had broken national lockdown rules and invited two sex workers to his home amid the global coronavirus pandemic.[47][48] On 7 May 2020, it was again reported that he had broken lockdown rules by travelling to Sheffield to give a present to his sister and hugging her. He later admitted that he also visited his parents to pick up food. Manchester City said they would not discipline him for this, citing the trip's being for personal reasons. He later tweeted that he felt he and his family were being harassed and that the reports were affecting the mental health of his whole family.[49]

If he did hold a party that was the root of these infections and given previous form, then I really do think it’s reasonable to ask for the games to be awarded to Everton and Spurs. It isn’t a one-off. It’s not an accident. It’s sheer wilful stupidity that City, especially, are responsible for as he is an employee of theirs.

I think it benefitted us in the end. It gave us some much needed rest, allowed us extra time to get key players fit, and lessened any exposure to covid. I also think it was the right call for City. It gave them time and space to get themselves sorted, and to take stock.

What I don't understand is the shoddy way the PL have handled it. I mean, why has it needed us, Mourinho and Moyes to all come out questioning it, just to get that measly statement.

And also, to any lurking City fans. Why hasn't your club come out in support of ours and lambasted the PL, for not doing us the courtesy of communicating with us during the decision to postpone our fixture? Respect is a two way street

I'd like to know which medic wrote that letter saying 'stop the game, if one of their players does have the virus, they might infect somebody from the other side'. so what? they're all in their 20s, there's a minimal risk to them, why is it suddenly urgent ten months into a pandemic? I'll bet it was city's comfy inhouse doc who penned that letter.

You're spot on.

There's no direct response to Everton and the postponement - it's a blanket, ambiguous, derisory statement outlining the rules and that each game is decided on a case by case basis - so why then can't they explain why, in this case, the game was called off, especially if 14 players were available to city?

Surely they can tell us and everyone else the facts around why, not just what, happened?

I hope Everton don't leave it here - were getting pelters left and right anyway, so we might as well be hung as a sheep than a lamb, especially if the Kyle walker party story has any legs?

No fan of Davey Moyes either, but he is spot on with his comments and asking why his game earlier in the season wasn't postponed.

Something isnt right here.
