Tea Party may be to blame, but both parties have shifted, at least given the metrics we have so far

Depends on which time frame we're talking about here. Clinton's 3rd way Dems of the 90's were centrist, but the mainstream of the party is as far left as it was pre-Reagan.

The one thing I'll agree with is that the parties are more pure than they have been recent history. Very few liberal Republicans or conservative Democrats left.

Sanders was a long time independent, he's running as a Democrat as its the only way he stands a chance of winning the Presidency.

Post war Presidents - Clinton for me. The Lewinsky affair will forever blot his legacy but that apart he was a very good President. Domestically in the 60s Kennedy and LBJ introduced radical policy which saw positive social change but Vietnam will forever dog that era.

H Clinton has it in the bag let's be honest. Sanders is castigated as a commy by the media and the republicans are a joke

Think a large part of the problem is people just voting along "party lines" regardless of who the candidate is. My sister is a big supporter of Bernie sanders and hates Hilary but I know if Clinton gets the nom that's who she'll vote for( I'm sure "conservatives" I know will do the same whether it be trump, bush, Carson, etc) a bit apathetic to this election myself, seems a pretty poor pool ofcandidates

Unless you control both Houses of Comgress it's almost impossible to get any semi controversial issues through as President. You may get 1 or 2 over the line (Like Obamacare) but grid lock tends to be the norm.

It's easy during a campaign to promise the earth but in office it's incredibly difficult to get things done. That being said The Republicans currently control both Houses so should a Republican win (And they hold onto the Houses), the first year or two may see plenty of reform.

Hillary Clinton is a criminally insane Christian Zionist war-hawk [Poor language removed] who's time at the State Department has shown she should never have the top job.

The thought of Clinton vs. Trump is too depressing to contemplate.

Every candidate's foreign policy stance is, in my opinion, majorly f%$#'ed besides Sanders and Rand Paul. We've been acting like imperialists since Vietnam and nobody seems to care that we pump trillions of dollars and thousands of innocent lives into fighting all of these "conflicts" every year with no real gain to show for it.

LOL at Kentucky and its low turnout gubernatorial election last night meaning that around 400,000 people will likely lose health insurance. If Bevin follows through on his campaign promise, they'll become to the first state to stop the Medicaid expansion after already starting it.

So, as a Wisconsinite who's watched my state's schools and universities get detonated over the past 5 years with sluggish economic growth and increased state borrowing, let me tell you folks, this thread may be about the presidential race but dear lord do you need to pay attention to your state and local politics.

Seems reasonable to have a single thread for this now that we're officially 12-months out from the election.

part of the problem is half the time Americans have to put up with electioneering and dead-president-walking rather than real policy-actions.

12 months still? I thought with all this build-up over the last few months it must be imminent. Jesus wept, like.
