Agreed. Far too much time & attention (and money) spent electioneering.

Bill Maher made a good (if glib) point about this that if it were shorter then Trump would be President already (and by logical extension ... we would all be dead). The LOOOOONG cycle gives people who are on the fence about being an idiot enough time for their smarter friends to explain to them why voting for insane republican candidate # 1,876 isn't actually a good idea.

It was joke-y but it's not entirely without merit. If you wait long enough most of these people set fire to themselves.

Even protected by anonymity I am not going to say much about my feelings towards any potential president, but I will comment on how much of a circus the entire election process has become. As other people have stated, the debates are nothing more than entertainmen. It's just crazy, poorly thought answers to equally daft "gotcha" questions asked by supposed professionals. The fact that some of these candidates have legitimate supporters really makes me question a positive future for the United States.

We are falling behind in every category and these jokes of presidential candidates are direct reflections of where we are heading. Idiocracy. I do not care if we're number one in the world in anything because it's a constantly changing globe, but I want us to be near the top. I have all the pride in the world in my country because I've personally been blessed with an education, opportunities, and amazing career that I would not have gotten anywhere else. The key is that I had to work extremely hard for it and I don't see the motivation in younger people now facing the turning point I did that set me on my way. They want everything handed to them and don't want to learn anything.

That's a huge problem with this election. A lot of voters are going to show up at the polls ignorant and vote solely on the knowledge that someone else have them. During the most recent debate, Fiorina and Carson said things that are absolutely untrue. They can pull things out of their arse and no one is going to fact-check them.

Really, nowhere else? Not Britain, Canada, France, Germany....blimey didn't realise Europe or the rest of the world was so far behind the USA.

On a more general, I remember an analysis from a Presidential election back in the Bush #2 era, with the voting patterns of about c.43 states known in advance and the whole election dependent on how c.7 swing states performed on the day. Is that still largely the case, or even more restricted now to even fewer swing states?

My career path is unique to the US. It's not so much that I would be disadvantaged anywhere else, I just would not have the same job that I love.

I think this election is going to run similarly to 2012, but the number of swing states will depend largely on which candidate gets the bid for the Republicans. I believe the number of swing states would be greatly reduced if someone like Carson got the nomination since states that lean towards Democratic candidates would be solidly blue and certain swing states like Ohio may be decidedly blue. If the Republicans choose someone like Rubio there will be far more states up in the air.

Out of interest, which of course you don't have to answer, what is the education and opportunity that you received that was unique to the US. How would you know it was unique? Not nit-picking, just interested.

My career is within the US military and we have specialized training programs that are not replicated in any other country (i.e., test pilot school, advanced weapons school, national defense institute, ect). The knowledge gained is not just transferable within the military but has uses in the civilian world if I choose to leave at the 20-year point.

Other than that my education is from the University of Virginia and Georgetown which are very good schools but obviously not alone in the world when it comes to superior programs.

Not an ordinary job then. I suppose the clue was in the avatar.lol

Seen that absolute belled of a man Trump has said that the Paris attacks would not have happened had the Parisians been armed with guns. Mental. After saying that in his speech too, he got a rousing reception from supporters. 'Merica fck yeah.

Read the comments to that video and i'm really finding it hard to believe they're genuine. People saying he should be their next president or even Trumps VP. Guarantee, America will suffer massively if one of them two frauds get in charge. Just another Bush disaster in the making.

The mad thing is that Trump is probably the best out of any of the top eight GOP candidates; many of his policy positions are less barking than Carson / Bush III / Cruz / Rubio's are, he isn't going to be as much in hock to some of the utterly vile people who fund these elections (other than himself) as the rest will be, and Paul is just a diet version of his dad.
