I agree with goat here, reason being because I can't help think that with someone else, we'd slide right back to final day relegation scares. I want to win the league as much as the next blue, and while I don't think it's 'kopite' to feel a right to win, I think we also need a dose of realism sometimes.

I think it's realistic to say the lack of ambition doesn't lay with Moyes.

You can pick out individual matches, but he's been dealt a hand and played it about as well as it can be played.

Everton should be better but Moyes isn't holding them back.

He really is.

So the difference between 7th and Champions league is Moyes and some other manager (Lambert, Rodgers, Martinez, Maradonna??)? I'm not sure that's a defensible position and ignores the real reason we are where we are.

I think the difference between us losing a semi final and winning it this year would very much be the manager.

Or rather, the difference was a terrible defence lapse by Distin, and the absence of our cup-tied best midfielder.

Far more logical things to blame than Moyes. But hey, if you don't like the guy, you never will, and nothing he does will change your opinion.

No, its not.

Its kopite like.

"We should win stuff cos we is Everton".

I prefer to accept reality.

Yeh, quality stuff with the kopite jibe.

I take it reality is looking at the money league and predicting results based on finance.

You may ignore ignore the list in summerskin's post but THATS the reality, results on any given matchday disprove the money list argument and promoted sides surviving via football kills the home spun wisdom that only dour defensive football is the way.

As regards "we are Everton" - well we are.

Or don't you know?

He has changed my opinion of him, though.

Three years back I was his biggest booster. It's the results and performance and decisions over the last three years that have made me change my mind. I could just as easily accuse you of being stuck in an opinion and not changing it on new evidence.

sending the team out to contain didn't help either. They was there for the taking after we scored, but we sat back and gave them a life line. after half time we sat even deeper. This to me must have been the instruction. i have seen this tactic used by us in every high pressure game we have been involved in and it has never worked.

And here it is in a nutshell peeps.

There very well might be and usually is, but share the blame when it's due.

If you can praise him for his positive contributions (of which there are plenty) then you can chastise him for his negative ones, such as telling us to play like a pack of c*nts in that second half against Liverpool.

I didn't watch that second half beaming with pride at how stable we are in mid-table thanks to David Moyes, I was f*cking disgusted at the players and the manager...no-one should avoid criticism if it's deserved, especially the man who essentially oversees 90% of what goes on at this football club.

He should be criticized, but to get booted? I mean, wow.

I know there's a faction here that wants that, to each his own. I've never seen a reasonable replacement mooted, though. And please don't bring up one year wonders like Lambert and Rodgers, or the guy from Wigan who does so well he's always at the bottom of the table.
