I think Moyes purposefully lets his contract run down to give him some leverage with the board when negotiating transfer budgets. If he went to Spurs we would get a pittance in compensation as he only has a year left, so Bill needs to keep him sweet and try to get him to sign a new deal. Where he finds money from is another issue.

Maybe Davey wants to stick around and see our fine crop of youth come through? We probably have the best group of youngsters in the clubs history. Having nurtured them for so long I think he'd find it hard to walk away before they realise their potential.

He tried that with Hibbert, look where that got him.........................

I think I recall him waiting a while last time at Contract renewal time, I guess thats how he rolls, maybe it is as you say, a bargaining tool.

If moyes went i think we should give sheedy a chance :D His academy team did win the league and cup I believe 2 years ago.

He paints a picture that money doesn't interest him and he's committed to Everton, so a contract is only a piece of paper. Moyes is a control freak though, so I don't buy the laissez-faire attitude. Maybe he's concerned about burn out like Guardiola and wants to be free to take time out from the game when it suits him?

I doubt thats a factor, im fairly sure if he went to Kenwrong and asked for a break he would rip his contract up, regardless of time left on it.

I do think that the end is getting close, but I don't think the Spurs job is quite right for him. If he can win a trophy next year and the likes of Cahill and Neville call it a day it might seem like a natural end for him.

I sadly don't see it.

As for Moyes, the argument that he wants full control of the clubs he wants to manage won't get him anywhere.

All I'm reading is that Moyes will only leave if it was to a bigger club with lots of money...(which would be united, barcalona, real Madrid, inter, bayern)...and have full control...which only leaves united, arsenal...

he's not good enough for them. done nothing to command that kind of respect at bigger clubs

What ? Who ?

I swear people say this about every generation of youngsters at clubs all round the country, how many actually make it though ? So far the only two i've seen who look like they could be challenging for the first team are Duffy and Barkley. Baxter hasn't impressed me and i haven't seen enough of anybody else to really be wowed by them.

Oh and Moyes doesn't give youth a chance, as evidenced by his refusal to give Barkley decent runs in games when we were winning 3 or 4 nil at home in the last two months of the season. Chelsea when we were 2-0 up and strolling would be another example.

I just assumed he meant before they go and sign for a League 1 club.

I think that he's viewed with far greater reverence outside Goodison. How many managers have as many Manager of the Year awards as him? And he hasn't even won anything. If you take the recent appointments by Liverpool, Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle as examples the vogue is to go for bright young things over more experienced managers. Martinez is another who has been touted for every job going. Moyes bridges the two in that he hasn't peaked yet but he's certainly a safe pair of hands. He's also the master when it comes to stretching a tight budget. Given the recession and financial fairplay rules, that will make him very attractive to a lot of clubs. The fact that there wouldn't be a significant compensation package attached makes it even more enticing.

I said I would like Duncan Ferguson, to me the sun shines out of his arse, and I am entitled to my own opinion. I think he will make a brilliant Everton manager one day! And as for the Kenwright comment - he cannot give what he hasn't got!
We all know he hasnt got anything, but we also know he is holding on to te reins too tight and this may make him easecoff a bit and accept funds from other sources. As for Ferguson, always will be a hero of mine for the passion he showed when playing bt as a manager? Never! Just not in him I think.
