PSR Transfer Deadline Day

Thelwell also told us to expect sales. I would have thought that amounted to more than Dobbin and Godfrey. Otherwise, why say it at all? The clear implication I took from that was at least one, if not two of our big guns would be sold.

Maybe they've found the Arteta money. I'm no cheerleader for selling players below what we think is fair market value, but the thought of heading into another season with a hearing hanging over us does not bear thinking about. All when we should be looking forward with optimism to the new stadium and new ownership.

Something, quite literally, doesn't add up. If they are confident we have not breached, I don't see how that matches the narrative we have been given at all.

There must be a reasonable chance that we are gambling on the accounting issue.

It wouldn't surprise me if we are in a situation where we are compliant if we win that argument, but not if we don't.

Do you sell one of the genuine good players to make sure either way, or risk it and argue mitigation if wrong?
When you have a player , DCL , who is the last year of his contract and refuses to sign a new contract then you do what you have to do to effect a sale and avoid him losing on a free.

To me that means that if we have a valuation of £37 million ( unrealistic IMO ) you reduce it to say £25 million to guarantee that we don't breach PSR and mitigate him leaving in a free.

Sales after today will be important for next years PSR, a pretty small loss will drop off our three year cycle next year so we will need to take advantage of the transfer window to make sure we limit losses as much as possible. I'm sure there will be a big sale which will not only be required to decrease next years loss but allow a little wriggle room for incoming players.

I get that, but "if" they know what needed to be done to avoid a charge and haven't done it, then thats not acceptable in my book. It's a harsh and bitterly unfair pill to swallow but that's the lesser of two evils for me. We will be seen as serial offenders and they'll give two fingers to any mitigation. I get that the PL are playing silly buggers as well but we can't give them any ammunition.

The thing is,even if we somehow do get told we are ok the next few weeks (Which i doubt). Could we then not go over by that 16mil odd we still dont know if we have been found gulity of, meaning that could tip it over the amount allowed - plus we obviously would have not knew till/if we did lose more money and had no chance to fix it. Any big sale now could cover that potenial 16odd mil lost/added on to amounts

You're right and we can only hope that they're confident that we'll be compliant this year with the small sales we've completed. Obviously it's hard to have confidence in them being confident considering their confidence of not breaching originally turned out to be poppycock.

….no idea when we’ll find out if we’re PSR compliant, I’m sure we’d love to know. The one hope I have is DFG will certainly know the situation and won’t want to start their first season with a points deduction.
There has to be sackings if we are non-compliant again. It shouldn't even be a discussion. We need to be out of any "margin of error" here, because a points deduction this season might not be as manageable as it was last term.

3 clubs were apparently close to breaching. Us, Villa and Newcastle. Villa have sold Luiz for £43m and Newcastle are selling Elliott Anderson for £35m. Hope our two moderate sales mean we’re ok.

It is clear we would have preferred to move DCL but circumstances do not permit. Onana will not move until after the Euros but will help with PSR next year. Any deals for eg Maupay, Holgate will likely be late and cheap. The big thing for me is keeping Branthwaite for next season. If we do that I will be pleased. We just have to cross fingers and hope Everton have done the PSR calculations correctly.
