Dunno if you went through the outer seating area but it backs into the Engineer. Stumbled in there the other day when the Hart was packed and was very pleasantly surprised!
Actually found that part accidently as well, I know the lass who does toxteth chocolate which is next door. Apparently the Engineer is good for sports as well

The Denbigh and Bridewell are the absolute best pubs in town. Fi and Dom, and Stu at the Denbigh, have created some superb atmospheres

Also a fan of the aforementioned Dispensary, Roscoe Head, and Doc Duncans

Would also give a nod to Head of Steam. Always have Lilleys cider on, which I love
Agree with all of those. It seems from feedback on this thread I certainly need to plan a trip to The Denbigh at my earliest convenience! 🍻
Where would people say does the best Guinness?

I’d say shenanigans and the dispensary.

Although the futurists was surprisingly very good as well.
The above, Peter Kav’s and Lanigans 👍

The hardest thing I’ve found, is finding a pub that sells regular Guiness and not the chilled muck, that’s had all the life frozen out of it.

Ps - if you want a pub that has an award winning range of ciders, the university pub, the Augustus John can’t be beaten.

Opening hours can be varied though.

Yeah it’s such a rarity in the uk isn’t? How can anyone think Guinness is not cold enough already?? 🙈

Best regular Guinness pubs as follows

Shanangans
Dispensary (Hardman)
Kelly's (Smithdown)
Forgertys (Off Penny Lane)

Take it from someone who drinks a lot of stout.

May I just add that the Murphy's in Kelly's on Smithdown is the best in pint of stout in city.1000016246.webp

The Old Bank in Aigburtg Vale has good ale and is a decent enough clientele. The newly opened Solomon Taproom in Garston is good, too.
I was in both of them on Saturday ha!

I live facing the park on Garston old Rd....so Sols is 5mins from my door, good people who have opened that.

Also the Old bank has solid taps plus good Traditional German bottle beer in the fridge,Big Evertonian pub as well.

I’m going to nominate the Volly (The volunteer canteen) in Waterloo. Now I know some of you southenders may get a nose bleed if you venture this far north but I suggest you put on your big coat and make the trip.

It’s a great little boozer dating back to the 1870’s. Previously it was a Higsons’ pub but now it’s owned by the Liverpool Brewing Company.

Good selection of black lodge, LBC and salopian beers.
