I still cant figure out how Evertonians were sucked into that nationalistic maelstrom.

Supporting England FFS. That's where three decades of winning f.a. takes you.

Lesson learned I hope. An absolute bunch of overhyped chumps put in the bin by an injury ravaged French team...who probably wont even win it.
Can’t speak for anyone else but it’s been with me since I was kid, it’s memories of watching Prime Gazza at Italia 90, being huddled around a tiny tv in the security room with my mates at the local youth club watching Shearer bury the header against Germany in 96, countless heartbreaks etc

Everton are and forever will be my number one love in football but following England will never die for me until I die and I’m not ashamed to say that

I dont think it's just a mental thing. As you state: the defence is weak. You cant take a unit like that into a tournament and get away with it. That's just been underlined again.

I think Southgate also should have put Phillips straight back in. Him and Rice were astounding in the Euros. Putting that rancid Kopite in was a major error.

Strangely they lack proper defenders. Its mostly mentality though, you win nothing in sport without a clutch player doing it in clutch moments, England always fail on that score.

Agreed, Phillips is twice the player of that plastic Kopite - he’s stealing a career. I’ll be honest I’d a bit of vomit in my mouth, reading some of the comments on here about “Hendo”. Many better not mention the Bemetiz 6 …………or whatever it was.

That's fair comment mate. I appreciate that.

They missed James big time. And Chilwell. They do a hell of a lot of attacking and pin opponents back.

CBs: White was a blow. That may have been the difference today.

The talent is there in my opinion, they could have won the World Cup with the quality of player available, they are weak at the back, but ultimately they don’t have the mentality to win any tournament, this one was a massive, massive opportunity, they won’t get a better chance.

Again when the game is there for the taking they just melt, missed penalty tonight, letting a lead slip in the Euro final - how many penalty shoot outs in how many tournaments. It’s a systemic national insecurity and it runs deep. On that score we were able to predict mid week that England would struggle against one of the top nations when it was put up to them and France were down to their bare bones.

The problem with England runs deep in the psyche, I don’t even know how you go about fixing it, as a nation, given their resources, participation and population, pound for pound are probably one of the worst in tournament participation. I mean there are 4 million people in Croatia.
Tbh I do think Southgate has gone some way to fixing the England psyche - at least they have been reliably qualifying and getting out the groups which is not a given eg Italy & Germany.

I don’t think the margins were that great in this game and France were hardly down to bare bones either. Is there still work to be done yes but I don’t think is unachievable.

England is for a month every 2 years, Everton is a constant pain, just heart searing pain, over and over.

Whites a good player, fair points on Chilwell and James, good players, when you think of some of the centre half’s they have had over the years, it’s been one of their historical strengths.
