Quarter Finals

Another bit of nonsense from last night was the reaction to the ref's performance.

IMO he had a very good game. The one thing he got wrong was when Saka was clearly bundled over by a French player (Hernandez?) and gave nothing for it.

The challenge for the Kane 'penalty' first half was clearly outside the box.

The first one in the second half he gives it straight away.

The second penalty he allowed to play on because it's a decision you allow others in the VAR booth to make a call on these days. That's just the nature of the officiating of games now.

He judged well throughout what was a dive or genuine foul.

The stick he was getting off Dixon and the ITV commentaor divvy and the HT panelists was pathetic.

Oliver will probably get the final, but if Argentina dont beat Croatia he may get it.
I thought the in game commentary was pretty unprofessional, it always is when England play and its not especially helpful.

I would have swapped him for Phillips at 60 min mark to get a bit more technical ability on the pitch, but like you I don't think you can start someone else that changes the shape. France had about 3 shots on goal in 90 mins, that's down to getting the shape right.
They had 5 on target. But it's more than just that. France dominated midfield. Griezmann had a grip on that match for the first 45 minutes and Henderson and Bellingham combined couldn't contain him. They were getting dragged left and right chasing him all that half.

Southgate had to see that and change it. IMO he doesn't want to upset players. Henderson in particular.

It was a mentality that kicked in the moment France looked like they could deal easily enough with what England had to offer. Then it became all about the ref.

He’s just not quite been good enough. I know he’s scored all these goals for England but in the biggest moments he’s fluffed his lines. 1-0 up against Croatia in the semi final and he managed to miss an open net. He should arguably have scored the one that Lloris saves as well after he spun the defender. Big moments separate the world best from the worlds very good.

He never has been. There's plenty of strikers who can do what he does but they don't get the chance, hence why his career was started due to an injury crisis at spurs but flopped at Leicester.

The games changed, the best players are now on another level athletically, Wilson would have been more effective.

Spurs fans singing and then head in hands is VERY funny
Ben Foster is a complete loser

He's a complete gimp. He said everton are the worst fans to play against, which I can agree with, but his reasoning was due to abuse from us coming on the pitch (when we clap them) and throwing pizzas at him?

Hate to say it but I agree with your assessment of the ref. I was in a pub attending a Christmas meal with 45 people so there was no sound (which meant that didn't hear the commentary of half-time pundits) but from what I saw the ref was even-handed.

England, like Portugal, tried to play some theatrics, then blamed the ref because there was utterly minimal contact, instead of playing actual football.

Bellingham fell over like he was shot a few times, replays show he was barely touched lol

So England had 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss from Iran, Wales, USA, Senegal and France. Wow.
And Southgate gets to decide on his future? Has he actually managed a big win in his time as manager except for Germany last year?
