Pickford: the second goal conceded by him was a classic Everton goal to concede: cross right between the two CBs and a GK rooted to his line unwilling to take command of the situation.

Classic Pickford-era Everton.

You're welcome England.

It is the perennial lack of winning mentality that you don’t see with other European nations. Someone said earlier that the Germans expect to win, whereas England hopes.

Erikssen and Capello couldn’t fix it. Doesn’t look like Gareth can either.

It could just be the fact that they are never quite good enough and there are always better teams around.

England tend to finish around where they should do. They are a nation who used to fail to qualify for major tournaments in the not too distant past so they are doing better...

The two CBS should have been enough to stop Giroud getting the header without the need for JP to come off his line

He's being strategic right now. 'Going away to think about it" = let the fuss about going out of the WC die down and then announce he;'s "willing to stay on and take the team into the next tournament".

The feller is onto a good thing and he knows it. England win most matches on their own. They only need a manager when playing great teams and require a tactical re-think. And he cant do that bit.

It's on his six yard box.

Come on. A GK has to be all over that.

We know he wont do come for a cross there, and thats what England found out to their cost on Saturday.

All true enough, but getting serially bested by Croatia (pop: 4m) says that it can be done. The formula remains out of reach for now.

Watching extended highlights that were just broadcast down here. That was such a brilliant goal Brazil scored, and they are unfortunate that they didn't go on despite scoring it.

Speaking of brilliant goals, bad luck to those of you that had actually wanted England to win (unless MikeH72 wanted England to win, then it's sucked in). A great shot from Tchouameni, and a goal from a sweet cross from Griezmann. I don't agree with the point Pickford should've got it. That thing zinged in and dipped, he'd have looked like a goose flapping for it while it was heading to the net.

A big deal is made about Kane's miss. But I was watching the game thinking the script was going to be a France win. Kane scores the second one, France would've scored in extra time IMO.

I completely agree, was going to respond to the posts that said that he was at fault and then realised the post was designed to get people reacting and therefore feeding him.

Too much is being made in the press or us reaching a quarter final as though it's some great achievement, some even calling for a hero's welcom home lol . It really isn't when you look at it.

Very weak group in which Tranmere would stand a chance of getting through, followed by a game against Senegal to reach this magical last 8.

First big hitter we meet, and as I personally fully expected it to be it was curtains. 2/10, must try harder.

Second goal is on the centre backs, specifically Maguire. 100%.
