Pickford: the second goal conceded by him was a classic Everton goal to concede: cross right between the two CBs and a GK rooted to his line unwilling to take command of the situation.

Classic Pickford-era Everton.

You're welcome England.
What are you even saying? Neither of the goals were even remotely Pickford’s fault. The second goal came from the entire England team ball-watching instead of pushing out after clearing a corner, despite France having scored a few goals this tournament already from teams failing to push out after a corner clearance.

If I wanted to criticize him, it would be for guessing high on the first. Difficult save, but it's where blame can reasonably be laid at the goalkeeper.

The second goal was just the defense exposing him as the last line of defense. He would need a cape and extra-terrestrial birth to save that.

Second goal is on the centre backs, specifically Maguire. 100%.
Ok, it's a flattish cross and maybe he shouldn't come for that one. But look at Pickford's positioning for that header - he starts off a yard from his line as it's swung in, then he's standing a foot behind the goal line as the ball leaves Giroud's head.

It's terrible positioning and hands the attacker a better chance of getting his header over the line.

Too much is being made in the press or us reaching a quarter final as though it's some great achievement, some even calling for a hero's welcom home lol . It really isn't when you look at it.

Very weak group in which Tranmere would stand a chance of getting through, followed by a game against Senegal to reach this magical last 8.

First big hitter we meet, and as I personally fully expected it to be it was curtains. 2/10, must try harder.

Equally your wumming attempt isn’t much better than a 2/10

Must try harder

For England to have not won a major trophy in 28 attempts is below par. They're one of the major footballing nations. Football mad country. Have one of the top leagues. Fa rolling in cash. Large population. Champions league players in pretty much every position. Law of averages should have seen them at least win one trophy.

England are going to be in the shake up now for the next 10-15 years at least. Still might not end up winning anything, but they're going to getting regularly to QFs, SFs and finals now for the next decade or so.

Lots of young talent in England right now.
As a neutral, I enjoyed watching England during this World Cup. Saka and Bellingham in particular are brilliant players.
In the long term, a strong replacement for Henderson is needed and a successor to Kane. I’m not sure who that would be. Abraham? Toney?

The two sentences above kind of argue against each other a bit though don’t they ?
Not necessarily. The rules of the game were invented there. Richest league in the world. Etc. The national team can be a bit crap but it's the de facto national sport of large (population wise) European country. Still one of top 10 nations to play the game.

It wasn’t a dig by the way, I just don’t see how they can be classed as one of the major nations when they’ve only won 1 trophy in their history. Undoubtedly they are a top 10 team but I don’t consider them to be classed in the same bracket as Brazil, Argentina, Germany or France.

Dont think many English folk would neither. Cant recall who said it, ages ago, but "England invented football, (we didnt, Scotland did), and the rest of the world showed us how to play it." Kinda.
