Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

I sense some of our brave lionhearts are getting a little antsy as regards rising expectations within the Everton fan base. I would be unsurprised to see our brave lionhearts ‘lay down tools’ as a result. The auguries toward a good start to the season are not propitious.
I just get my thesaurus :coffee:

He bought 28 players while at Newcastle but as many of them were crap Ashley felt he had to pull the plug on his spending.
Benitez is a past master of bringing the fans over too his side and blaming everyone else for his failings.
He will do exactly the same at Everton and start blaming Moshiri.
I'm actually hoping he does that, Moshiri is exceptionally vainglorious, the minute Benitez starts that crap here he'll be on his bike.

Every manager since Moyes has had a "transition" first season in most fans eyes and Benitez will get one with me based on current transfer business.

If we go out and sign some top players he'll have to have us fighting for top 7 but if it stays as it is then 10th+ is acceptable first season.
In a little bit unsure of Your use of ‘most fans ‘. If you’re saying in your experience most blues you encounter are more allied to your thought process than mine then I’ll accept your view but tell your we are clearly in very different social groups . I don’t think anything less than over-performing, and by that I mean actual over performing not your assessment that 10 th is the equivalent of that , gets him any kind of decent fan support .

it’s only my opinion but If we finish the season mid table the owner might give him another year but the ground will be horrible, I’m not saying that’s right but it’s the mindset I’m encountering.

Low expectations for a low expectations manager. If you never dream of any success you will never be disappointed. It'll be just like having Moyes back. @davek will be thrilled.

I think most fans are at the point @davek Mentioned of wanting to see some actual commitment and fight from the players on the pitch.

If we are putting in effort on the pitch and finish say 8th-10th in season 1 then I think most wont be fussed.

Maybe at the end of season 2 we are still in that bracket some fans wont be happy myself included but the reality is at present our league finishes are not solely down to the manager - they are also down to the recruitment policy of the club which is shambolic and has been since Moyes left.

Unless we start bringing in players with pace and power who have commitment, energy and fight we'll never be finishing in the top 7 when you have the top 6 + Leicester, West Ham, Leeds, Villa recruiting well and players putting in more shifts than ours it doesnt matter who our manager is.

If we finish 10th and you think people will be ok with Benitez and you’re actually serious then I’m starting to think you’re actually taking the mick mate . Never mind other posters , you go the match don’t you ? Honestly you really think that ground would be ok with that manager finishing 10 th ? Behave

Ive only seen 2 managers at us that ive been very happy with Kendall and Moyes. Id have Moyes back in a heartbeat with or without money before this clown at the reins now.

If the players are showing commitment and we dont go on any bad slide like under Silva/Koeman the fans will let the first season slide. We had a few seasons under Moyes of midtable finishes but largely outside of the odd grumble providing the performances had fight in them he was never chased out.

Ah I must have missed moyes arriving with this baggage or his appointment being treated like this . It’s just a comparison of apples and oranges , allardyce was hugely unpopular and finished 8th and he didn’t have nearly as many against him before the first game .

I’m not suggesting it’s right or wrong but I am saying that in my opinion if Benitez has this side mid table then Goodison will be a deeply unpleasant place to be . You seem to disagree , I hope nether of us find out but I honestly believe you probably agree with me if you’re truthful but again it’s only an opinion .

I would be concerned if Kenwright was running the show but ultimately Usmanov is in the hotseat and has his nephew as his voice in the boardroom.

The Goodison crowd can cry all they want Benitez is here until Usmanov no longer wants him & Benitez is thick skinned enough to not care about grumbles from the terraces.

Talk of managerial influence is moot where Everton is concerned. The squad is slow and unambitious. No manager can get a tune out of our deadbeat squad. I do not know how that Brands bloke still has a job...he is useless

Even though moshiri said he sacked managers because of crowd pressure ?

Results will keep him or get rid of him it's that simple for me irrespective of him being thick skinned or who is calling the shots usmanov or moshiri
