They have made changes to the scrum I think? Though don't quote me as I don't follow it massively.Heading is fundamental to football, some players are professional due to their ability to head a ball.
So I assume in these changes Rugby made, they banned something important, like throwing the ball.
How many players I wonder. In both the proffessional game and amature game actually suffered in later life cause of heading the ball. I wonder what the actual percentages are. My arl fella played center half sat and Sun till he was in his 40,s and at that level the ball was probably in the air more than it was on the deck and it was the old caseys. In his late 80s now and sharp as a tack.

Soz mods. Didnt realise this was the manager thread.
Off topic. Report yaself, Roy.
Just scrap football and play 5-a-side at this rate.
We’re on our way to a heading ban over the coming generation, I think. Maybe it’ll start with heading only being allowed in the area or something, but I think it’s looking pretty inevitable in the long term.
The old leather/concrete balls they used to play with are bound to have created damage which will worsen with age and as you say accelerate an underlying condition, but with the better quality of footballs over the last few decades it has to be better. They surely can't have the same effect as a waterlogged leather boulder. Unfortunately, there will not be the opportunity to assess it until the modern players are a lot older. There was some research done and the number of ex footballers with dementia related conditions in later life were statistically higher in number than the general population. As a collective. If that makes sense.
That said, the number of suicides in ex cricketers has a similar tale. As does the number of bankruptcies amongst recently retired footballers.
It, heading, could be the cause, it could accelerate a pre condition, (covid esq?), might be anything. But focusing on heading, which has been the subject of research, and does show some neuro damage, which whilst minor in a 40 year old ex player, but can deteriorate over the next few decades, seems sensible.
it cant be ignored that balls were significantly heavier, evening recent years. Modern balls are nothing compared to when I was playing, never mind those they played with in the 1960sThere was some research done and the number of ex footballers with dementia related conditions in later life were statistically higher in number than the general population.
