Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

Everyone backed Koeman, Silva and Carlo from the start so it should be no different with Benitez. If he does well here the history books wont forget the names of those abusing him from day 1.

Almost every word of the first sentence is incorrect, I think. There were many doubting voices about the three appointments you mention.

Whether or not he does well, I'd be disappointed if I haven't made my opposition to this person's selection very clear. And what of it? Are we meant to be some carefully organised line of infant school kids, marching to someone else's orders?

We all know that bottom half finishes are fine with you. Some of us have higher ambitions. You constantly berated Ancelotti and he finished 10th with this squad but, according to you, finishing lower than that represents an achievement for Benitez. You make no sense.

I've never said bottom half is an achievement.

8th-10th is where this current squad is talent wise - if you want higher then back the manager with quality players its simple.

You've certainly said it's acceptable to finish bottom half which, given your criticism of Ancelotti, makes no sense. Also, by your measure Ancelotti had a par season, yet you blasted him on here. Shouldn't you have got behind the manager like a top bloo? I believe that's your motto these days.

Low expectations for a low expectations manager. If you never dream of any success you will never be disappointed. It'll be just like having Moyes back. @davek will be thrilled.
I wont be thrilled at that. 10th wont be good enough to stop a stampede demanding Benitez go before his contract is up.

I dont think we need fear that though. I can see any team organised defensively but with our attacking quality getting well up the top half.

I'd say we'll finish between 6/8th. Maybe better.

This league is a load of tosh beyond City and Chelsea. Liverpool were a two season flash in the pan.

I'll be optimistic if the summer business is solid. For all the talk of the manager the priority has always been ensuring we add pace and power to this squad of players.

You'll have the haters on Benitez's back soon as he draws or loses a game but the reality is we finished 10th and 12th with Ancelotti - the squad isn't great.

Anything over 9th next season and the blokes overachieved at this stage imo.

I've never said bottom half is an achievement.

Not saying you’ve moved the goalposts but you’ve said

“Anything over 9th is over achievement”

&

“8th-10th is where the current squad is talent wise “

you change as it suits just to suit your agenda , I don’t think you mean it I honestly think you forget what you say as you constantly try to argue every point . Quick mention Eddie Howe or potter again .

In a little bit unsure of Your use of ‘most fans ‘. If you’re saying in your experience most blues you encounter are more allied to your thought process than mine then I’ll accept your view but tell your we are clearly in very different social groups . I don’t think anything less than over-performing, and by that I mean actual over performing not your assessment that 10 th is the equivalent of that , gets him any kind of decent fan support .

it’s only my opinion but If we finish the season mid table the owner might give him another year but the ground will be horrible, I’m not saying that’s right but it’s the mindset I’m encountering.
I don't believe there will be a bad atmosphere at Goodison, I believe he will be given time by the majority of fans and certainly by the owner.

Moshiri went against the wishes of Evertonians in appointing Benitez I don't think he will be swayed by them into sacking him.

Bit, it is a futile argument, the first game at-home will tell a lot.

I hope we win and it takes loads of pressure from him , if we lose he’s under the gun day one . You can’t believe he won’t get loads of stick if we lose ?

Sadly Dave Ped FC are going back on to their cycle this season and might do ok again.

If you can find me saying bottom half is an achievement then sweet thats @windymiller accused me off.

Based on current business 9th is an overachievement in the managers first season with no new signings and down a Richarlison one of our only two goal threats and only decent wide player for the opening fixtures.

Doesn't mean the squad still isn't 8-10th in quality.

Not with the trash they're bringing in so far and the Dad's Army they've retained.

They really should have had a clear out of Firmino, Salah, VVD, Henderson, Thiago, Milner.

Almost the entire first team are 30 or 30 plus or a year short of 30. And the youngsters they "brought through" are getting sold or loaned out for another year.

That's a team going nowhere fast.

Ancelotti could have had us overacheiving last season but his tinkering and stubborness had us fall from top 4 to top 10 thats why I criticised him.

Same way if Benitez has us in the top 4 spots half way through the season and we finish 10th thanks to his tinkering with the team/formation I'll criticise him as well.

Watch them all sprinting round the pitch for 90minutes next season.

So the squad is 8-10th in quality but finishing smack bang in the middle of that is overachieving? I’ll be honest you’ll have to explain that to me , I just can’t understand how that works .

You can say you’ve changed your mind or you made a mistake you don’t have to die in a ditch for a point of view , just because certain Posters do doesn’t mean you have to .

I dont think so. PEDS might work on younger bodies but not on players past their peak. They just help them not fall off dramatically.

Liverpool's average first team age is alarming for any Kopite...or should be.

If we finish 8th but go through the season with DCL and Richarlison out for 6 months each we've overachieved despite 8th being where we would normally expect to finish.

We go into this season up against teams with a settled system/manager and have a new manager with a new way of playing and likely formation, no Richarlison for a few games who's 1 of our only 2 goal threats and likely only a few signings who will probably miss the first few games the time we get them in.

That changes everything.
