It's actually baffling. The worst kind of gatekeeping.Imagine being arsed about people calling a manager by a shortened version of his first name.

It's the familiarity that comes with modern media and the Internet.I heard Davey Moyes and Bobby Martinez lots of times during their reigns.
The objection to Benitez is unique for obvious reasons. People just can't let go.
That said, I've always found it cringeworthy anyway, it should just be surnames. Same with "Boris" for Johnson.
The Gaffa.
This 100%. So weird how people say Boris.I heard Davey Moyes and Bobby Martinez lots of times during their reigns.

….at the risk of being vaulted, I always use surnames, even ’Sigurdsson’. It might be because I’m ok at spelling but I also find it cringeworthy how Koppites refer to their players.
Well yeh, was always the concern for me anyway. It's like drinking a litre of whiskey a day for a couple of years and complaining one day you've woken up yellow. Being bitter and blue has long been part of DNA, treat that element with contempt it will turn and tear some a new one, not if but when!this thread will get 50 pages in a day if actually lose a game lol
"oppositional forces" Grow up FFS.Benny the Tez la, Benny the Tez. He's the daddy three games in.
I sense a reckoning from oppositional forces when the going gets a bit less decent.
@kev if you think its bad now, just wait.
This thread has descended into the ridiculous.
Some posters are genuinely excited by his appointment. That's fine.
Some posters are genuinely unhappy by his appointment. That's also fine.
There are also more than a few posters (from both sides of the debate) who are just out and out WUM's. Presumably they find it funny to wind up fellow blues.
Exaggerated praise of the manager and exaggerated negativity about the manager are equally divisive and most of all incredibly boring.
It's what ever rolls off the tongue easier. Rafael I'll go with.
Mate, its the reality. Which side of the force are you on? Dark or light? Jedi or sith?"oppositional forces" Grow up FFS.
As I said divisive and boring.
Easier to Spell. Plus, it's his name.
Or, in special circumstances
- The Manager
- Benitez
The shortened version is never acceptable, he's not your mate. (unless he is, of course)
- Rafael
Standards please Toffees, standards.
