Galtier was my choice. There were risks, definitely, but there are loads of risks with Benitez.
Potter was mooted and if the club did have a long term plan then a manager of his ilk would have been sensible. I’m still not fully sold on him btw but as for who would be a better long-term coach for Everton, it’d be him over Benitez.
Ten Haag, had we shown a bit of ambition and bravery.
again, there’s risks with any appointment because that’s just where we are. But this ‘who else?’ line needs to stop. It’s like the ‘which other striker in world football could we possibly have signed other than Rondon?’ argument
To be clear, I didn’t think and still don’t think Benitez is an awful appointment or the worst manager in the league. I just feel footy has moved on from him. He’s not a dinosaur, but he’s done nothing of note in the last 6-7 years to suggest he should have been the pick. Then you throw in the Liverpool factor which, like it or not, is a big issue for a lot of people, which compounds that
Ajax

Best Sporting 5-1
Right back: Mazraoui out of contract in summer
Centre Mid: Gravenberch 'liked' by Brands
Right Winger: Antony
All 'problem' positions for us.
If we can pay Ancelotti £11-12mil a year then surely we could attract Erik Ten Hag.
5 year contract, full autonomy to rebuild the entire structure of the 1st team and youth teams.
We have a Dutch DOF whose never signed a Dutch player or recruited a Dutch member of staff for us. Its totally bizarre.
Can we not see some exciting football and joined up thinking ?
I agree to an extent but I still think he deserves the benefit of the doubt on certain things. On the zonal marking, I agree I'd like him to bin it ASAP.Benitez is not the worst manager out there, the problem we have is that he was, probably, the worst manager out there FOR US. Personally, I think that he is always going to be fighting fires here because there is a sizable section of the fans who will never accept him. Whether that is the right or wrong reaction to his appointment is immaterial, it is a huge obstacle to him ever being a success here.
For me, although I didn’t want him here, I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has made it very difficult for me to believe he will ever be worth the unrest and division he is causing. His tactics are outdated, his stubbornness and arrogance seem to know no bounds and, it seems that already he has the players arguing amongst themselves on the pitch regarding the implementation of his tactics.
It seems bizarre that he has managed to take our defending, especially of set pieces, which was our strong suit and make it shambolic, with his insistence that his system is better, he has persisted with the woeful Rondon, game after game, when it has been more and more obvious that the player is just not good enough at the moment and his continual dropping of Anthony Gordon, one of the only plus points of this season, for the lackluster Iwobi is unfathomable. It would also appear that he is the only man in football who hasn’t realized that without Doucoure we simply cannot play with a 2 man midfield, I know this doesn’t fit in with Benitez’ preferred system, but, you have to be flexible, if the personnel are not available to play a certain system, change it until they are, our manager seems to think that it will work if he just keeps doing what isn’t working.
Overall, there were some good results early on in his tenure, there was even a couple of very impressive performances, away at Brighton and Utd. It hasn’t been terrible up to now, but, it certainly seems to be headed that way and, because it is Benitez, it is going to be very difficult for him to ever win the crowd around if this goes on for much longer. It was for this reason that I was dead set against Benitez in the first place, he is showing me nothing, at the moment to make me suppose I was wrong.
That’s absolutely pathetic and they need to grow upI’m told by a couple of people there was at least one scuffle amongst blues leading to an ejection , as many of us predicted, the cause as I understand it the manager
But you can see his point.Ten Hag turned down Spurs - you think we could convince him to join with a £1.7 million budget and a squad who cant string two passes together to play "exciting football"
Some of you lot need to put the PlayStation remote down and get into reality!
Look mate I’m not saying it’s right I’m just telling you it was inevitable once the appointment was made . The time we’re into his tenure tells you he just isn’t the same as anybody else and as I said yesterday that’s not fair and it’s not even his fault .10 games into season 1.
Fast forward 12 months and the same idiots will either be numb to who the manager is or will have been banned from attending games for persistent trouble causing.
I find this hilarious coming from you with some of your shouts. Stop digging other fans with a different opinion to you out all the time.Ten Hag turned down Spurs - you think we could convince him to join with a £1.7 million budget and a squad who cant string two passes together to play "exciting football"

Everything might like rosy for Klopp right now but let’s be honest if he was at a truly big Club he would of been sacked last season after losing 6 home games on the bounce...Klopp on 15m is far better value than Benitez on 7m ( as per his fan boy / mate / alter ego )
He’s not changing zonal marking, he’s done it all his career. He’s not changing now. Apparently they struggled at Liverpool at first, but he improved it over timeI agree to an extent but I still think he deserves the benefit of the doubt on certain things. On Rondon, his hand was forced a little bit by injuries to DCL and Rich. On the midfield, which 3 do you play without Doucoure? Allan, Davies and Delph? I can see why he wouldn't want all 3 of them in the team because 2 of them are traditionally liabilities. I think considering he's only 10 games in you can still argue he's getting to see now what the players are capable of. Also Gordon, he's only 20, I can understand him wanting to ease him in gently.
You mentioned there were some impressive performances and good results early in his tenure. That was because he had his best players available. Maybe we should then consider not going overboard now that he's having to play some of the woeful squad players.

You have to go and put nonsense on the end of every post don't you, no wonder nobody takes you seriously. Conte knocked Spurs back but changed his mind, we don't know what job managers will take the money is staggering.Because its delusional to be slating the club for having not attracted a Ten Hag type this summer with our FFP issues when said same manager knocked Spurs back and signed a new deal
Lads lets throw a pony in for Klopp ahahaha go on Mosh on swap deal for the FSW!!
I hope our lot hurry up and get a grip then , sometimes things take time so hopefully the penny will drop .He’s not changing zonal marking, he’s done it all his career. He’s not changing now. Apparently they struggled at Liverpool at first, but he improved it over time

you’re his biggest cheerleader tell me how we change this ? If we win 3 then lose 3 we’re back here again , he has be our most successful manager ever to even have a chance . With this squad the fella has more chance of knitting fog.

I just wish we weren't in this position at all, it's awful the division in the fans. I doubt Benítez is going anywhere anyway, which is causing all this. I'll be honest, I never expected it to be a venomous as it is, it's not healthy.
Any other manager and I would wholeheartedly agree, I think you need time to implement your ideas and gain consistency but while he is here it is getting toxic, he just won't get the same leeway as another would. It sucks I agree and like I said, I wish we weren't in this position. The only way we improve is when our best players are on the pitch and/or the recruitment is better so we have players on the bench who can replace the likes of Doucoure, DCL and Mina like for like. The fans just have to accept that instead of spitting their dummies out whenever we aint in the top 6 spots with this squad of rubbish.
Conte will have been promised big money to spend and probably on massive wages.
Spurs revenue is treble+ ours, they have a 60k stadium already whereas our owner is pumping circa £100 million of his own dough this summer to cover the ground work for BMD and lets be honest Spurs have Kane & Son we dont.
If we had £150m budget this summer gone I would be agreeing we could attract a Ten Hag or Poch but we never we had £1.7 million and we'll be lucky if we have much more than that next summer unless Richarlison or DCL goes for big bucks to clean the books.
So calm heads must prevail for the next 12-18 months whilst the club resets itself financially. Shouting for Benitez's head on a spike without acknowledging the financial limitations of who we could attract is short sighted.
