And we finished 10th last season and universally agreed the manager needed another season and backing in the summer window.

So what's suddenly changed from that view point?
Nothing, that manager did need another season and would have had one if one of the best clubs in the world not come in for him.

What's changed is some people's perceptions that top 14 or so is now acceptable because apparently the squads weaker and was apparently left in a mess. When actually, the previous manager has arguably left it in a better state than he found it and the new manager added his own players so shouldn't be going 1 win in 8.

The only real change is the manager and we look worse.

Which was fine - we were 5th/6th playing Potterball off the park on his own patch then a spate of key injuries hit and we've predictably slipped down the table which will keep happening until the likes of DCL, Doucoure & Mina are back on the pitch because the squad isnt strong enough to adequately replace these players like for like.

This fella is here at minimum until BMD is built - Usmanov/Moshiri aint paying off another manager so thats another 2-3 years minimum of Raffa in the dugout.

Stewing in hatred towards the man/the club for that long is a heavy cross to burden yourself with. My advice is lighten the load and have patience in the manager bringing in his own players and rebuilding the squad.

Would you agree like many on here who said (when we were winning) that the squad was stronger than last season by us bringing Townsend and Gray in?

I said that, it was stronger from a very weak starting point

We had nothing to change the game from the bench, Grey and Townsend came in for directness and speed to work off the bench

Unfortunately because of quality/injuries they are actually regular starters, so we have completed a circle now as we still don't have anyone who can come off the bench and change the game

I am sure you will agree during our start they were both our better players?

But the haters are ignoring losing every one of our best players during our dip in form.....it's maddening. If we had been in this form with a full squad and strong bench, then yes, question him, however, we were doing OK given the spend and squad BEFORE we became the walking wounded. People are TOTALLY ignoring this. Do any of you seriously think our results would have been as bad if DCL, Richie, Mina, Digne, Alan, Doucoure, Coleman even Gomes and Godfrey had all been fit??? Not an effing chance would they have been.

Peoples hate is clouding their actual assessment of the clear and obvious situation. That is what bothers me, far more than having the fat waiter at the helm.

…but that works both ways. He’s lauded by some for every decent result, yet the players are blamed or excuses made by the same fans when things go wrong. That’s why he’s so divisive.

Not really with Keane, James and Siggy unavailable to us. Doucoure, DCL, Gomes, Mina, Richie missing from action at the same time or overlapping times has shown what a weak squad we have. Thankfully Benitez was able to bring in Townsend and Gray for basically nowt to prevent a total capitulation. We have to see Benitez with funds in a few windows to see what he can do (dependent on funds available) or he will carry on attempting to polish a turd

Be fair Eggs, all managers are lauded when it goes well, However, I cannot recall a manager losing every decent player he has and being blamed for it, especially given his own spend. If Carlo had had this exact situation he would not have gotten grief

When was Keane unavailable to us? Or do you mean Kean? The player we didn't use last year either so hardly a miss. James was available but benitez chose not to use him and get rid of him, that's on benitez. Siggy is the only one of the 3 that is unavailable through no choice of benitez and most wante dhim gone anyway.

1 win in 8 not a total capitulation? Glad we have Gray and townsend to save us from that then.

1 win in 8, 3 wins in 17, 3 in 16, 1 in 9 has been happening for the last 20 years or so on a regular basis. Don't the injuries come into consideration or is this becoming a hatchet job because of who he once managed where other managers with similar records are just given a little groan

They do come into it. My reasons why I didn't want him and don't want him as a manager aren't because he managed the RS, and I explained them all in the summer and not rehashing that. Everyone gets injuries, but even before them, the football still wasn't good, other than Brighton, United and a few 10/15min spells here and there.

Other managers have been sacked for similar runs, regardless.of the injuries etc. He is very close to the same position to when we needed allardyce to "save us". But thats acceptable for some posters who believe he does no wrong.

There's more to it then just injuries. The team are arguing with each other on the pitch. Coleman having a go at fans etc. Management is part of his job, not just picking 11 players.

Any manager with a run like those should be sacked - it's nowhere near good enough under any circumstances.

I wasn't over the moon with his appointment but he does deserve a bit of slack. He has inherited this squad then had nowt to spend while others around him strengthened. Now if he was on this run with a 1st choice 11 then I would be up in arms and asking serious questions. The squad he inherited after a £500m spend or thereabouts over the last few seasons isn't down to him. His hands have already been tied with no money to spend and this has been added to with the better players being injured so he falls back on a ridiculously feeble squad. Coleman has always been a nark throughout his career. I also cannot remember a prolonged spell of good football under any stewardship apart from maybe Martinez in his first season. I really cannot see us playing good footy for 90 mins with this team. We have and always will have the 2 or 3 good players that can shine while the others are just water carriers. I am willing to give him time and see what he can do with spending money rather than get yet another manager that has to inherit the very same squad that is not capable. 1st 11 is not shabby but still short
