He’s beaten Southampton, Huddersfield and Brighton.

Steady.

All for not going over the top, but Brighton and Leeds were being bigged up before we played them and we dealt with both fairly easily and should have really had 6 points. Lots of other teams will drop points there. Even Southampton have had two draws with United and Newcastle since.

It always looked a decent fixture list on post at the start of the season but we’ve made a mess of these sort of fixtures in the past, especially away games when fans have been in.

Yes quite a way to go yet and perhaps the teams we have plyed could have been tougher. However it is just a question of the opposition but the way we pl;ayed to get results, as for Leeds said before we shoul;d have won that if not for the oddd blunder.

Everton normally have a poor record at performing in away grounds, especially at those places down in the south coast Bournemouth Southampton Brighton, so that was a satisfying win yesterday, and we were unlucky to win at Leeds as well. We also showed great character to win at Huddersfield, after going down to 10 men. So while i don't think i will ever truly warm to Benitez, he is doing everything asked of him so far. Long may it continue.

Of course i meant to say we were unlucky not to win at Leeds, but it's been a good start to the season anyway.

So far Benitez has been professional and competent. We have won games we should have won but I have to admit that we have played more attacking football under him than I envisaged. I expected them to be disciined and organised under him and they are but with attacking intent.
So far so good.
He is however being held by by an incompetent DoF and we are lacking in a couple of starting positions and squad strength.
Get your finger out Brands.

….at last we’ve brought wingers in, it’s been such an obvious gap in the squad.

I’m really not sure if Brands is incompetent, I wonder if he’s more impotent. I just doubt he’s bringing in who or what he wants.

He's got us organized extremely well at the moment. We've basically not conceded a good chance that isn't directly from an error. At the moment teams aren't breaking us down and can only really pass down the sides and deep toward halfway. That's really good but also probably going to be tested in the coming weeks as teams see the gaps over time. Hopefully he's prepared to adjust as needed.

Up the other end I think we've got room to improve. We're not getting penalties every week, we aren't United, but the potential to create and open play is there with what we're doing now by simply improving our decision making in key areas. So hopefully that comes in time especially as everyone gets more comfortable playing with each other.

A really encouraging start though!

Having mobility allows us to be more positive with our passing and we aren’t playing “Digne or die” footy which is a big upgrade. Doucore and Alan are able to get more involved which I felt they were left to cover too many tracks under Carlo.

You can concede possession. You just have to make the possession that you do have count. Maybe we are a bit lucky that Doucore scored a screamer in week one, but sometimes it takes that kind of goal to flip the switch in players. We look confident away from home too (With fans at that!)
