He got rid of James because he was earning to much for his return. You and others are using James as an excuse to bash Rafael, he was creatively brilliant in short spurts, but largely he gave no effort and didn't care. Look at him now, no one wanted him and he's in Qatar.

With Digne, no one knows what's happened, again using him as an excuse to bash Rafael.
"Look at him now. Nobody wanted him and he's in Qatar"

Isn't that exactly what happened to Benitez when he went to China?

It was always a long term project, no matter who the manager was, this shouldn't be a surprise to you. The club is a mess throughout and needs rebuilding.
Think we all know it’s a long term project and huge rebuild. I just didn’t think Rafael was going to be the one tasked with it.

When appointed it was all “he’s a safe pair of hands for a few years while we have a crap squad and no money to spend” I’m fine with that and see the logic. Ship steadied, we then appoint manager to carry out the long term project and rebuild.

If you’d said to me when appointed “this guy is the guy we’ve picked to carry out a long term project, completely overhauling the whole football operation in his image, the way he wants it, we’re putting all our trust in his experience” I would have said “not sure that’s a very good idea”.

There isn’t another team in the prem that would give him free reign like this. I bet he can’t believe his luck.

I don't use James really - I know why the club needed him gone, FFP wise. that being said, there should never ever have been any idea of getting rid of him outside of the transfer window. He could have been very useful for the first half of the season and gone in Jan.

There's been a pretty in depth piece on the athletic this morning saying Digne and Benitez have had discussions over his role all season, but they had an argument in training (in Spanish) the other day.

An argument because Digne isn't following instructions.

It was one game fella, put it back in your pants for now!

None of my posts are even that praiseworthy for Benitez. Simply saying that a manager shouldn’t be fired after 15 games or so is not overly effusive praise. What has happened on here is that people whipped themselves up into such an excited frenzy against Benitez that any sort of opposition to ‘Benitez should be fired tonight’ was seen as confirmation that you would defend Benitez to the death. It’s not my fault people got themselves into this sort of mindset. At one point even criticising Brands and the board was seen as some sort of hugely pro Benitez statement. How did it come to this?

Fair enough

Already managed to get the DoF binned, already managed to fall out with one of our better players, already managed to get James out of the door.

Oh, and already managed to lead us to our worst derby defeat in history at Goodison Park AND our worst Premier League run since the 90s.

Why do fans support him at all?
Honestly mate, you talk more sense than most, but you need to let this James thing go.

If anything, the James decision is the one thing Benitez has done which makes sense. Our top earning player who has a poor fitness record, couldn't/wouldn't run and was a defensively liability wherever he was in the side. Yes, he had talent in spades and on the ball he was a joy to watch, but there were a lot more negatives about him than positives. The crux of it is, even if nobody's going to let it go, he's ended up in Qatar. If he was potentially as good/useful as people say, he wouldn't be there, another European club would have taken him. We can reminisce about his talent in years to come because he had more natural ability than almost anyone I've ever seen in an Everton shirt before, but this one is not on Benitez.

EDIT - It also wasn't our worst ever derby defeat at Goodison. Google Glenn Keeley

Let’s be certain of one thing
The departure of Brands means the opposite to he is finished
The board looked at Benitez and his role in Gray and Townsend and realise with Benitez connection and knowledge of player we save money by dump the DoF
Benitez here to stay

Aye, seems he has got his way. Fair enough to me really, my guess is that a major reason behind our suffering has been that there are too many people making decisions

What choice do we have? The protests were a damp squid, Moshiri has given full control to the manager.

You either get behind the manager and hope for the best or live a half life existence like Kevin The Rat et al who can't even enjoy a dramatic injury time winner anymore.

No, he wanted to buy Barry to play alongside him, Barry was wanted to fulfil their homegrown quota for Europe.
He wanted him (which is fine) and in the process alienated Alonso resulting in him leaving at the end of the season. And he didn't even end up signing Barry. It was a pretty big error on his part and one that contributed to his downfall at Liverpool especially when he compounding that error by signing Alberto Aquilani to fill the gap left by Alonso/Barry.

Nowt wrong with supporting the bloke but lets not tell straight up lies about him either.

The protests achieved what they set out to achieve - they put pressure on the club and we got that second-half performance because of that. There was no way Benitez could afford to let it drift.

I want better for Everton football club than this toss pot.
