This is part of the problem - ‘entitled’

People showing up at the ground, thinking because they’ve paid to get in that their responsibility ends there - a sense of entitlement then that the team owes them something and they have no part to play themselves

There just seems to be very little thought put into what’s brought a situation about - and very quick to introduce negativity if results are poor

Much of what Benitez is saying in his press conferences is logic based but some ‘fans’ aren’t thinking that way

Do you expect a hammering in your job if going through a difficult patch or do you appreciate some positive teamwork through tough times?
Football is not a normal job. It can not be compared to run of the mill work.

So people are "fans" to you because they think differently? Is that how it works now?

The appointment gets worse every day. Look at the state of us.

They never got judged through an injury crisis as soon as he walked through the door.

People wanted Potter as manager and his team have not won in ten games.. the longest run without a win in the league.. some people should be careful what they wish for.
Crazy! And some still want him! Madness.

A hire and fire mentality won’t help the club - nor will fan pressure

Reading much of what’s said on here there’s often a substantial lack of awareness re what’s really going on in the club yet strong opinions held nonetheless

It’s like maybe people aren’t happy in their own lives and so need this as a vent

If that’s what supporting Everton really is then fair enough but it won’t help the success of the team

Whoever is running the supporter groups could perhaps start running educational sessions?
Ha ha , the absolute state of you lad, constantly sneering at Everton supporters because they won’t sit good and applaud gash football.
Everton supporters I might add who turn up every week packing out Goodison and away ends across the length and breadth of the country (and the continent when we get the chance.), despite the fact we’ve been crap for 30 odd years , yet you contrive to look down on and demean this support.
If football has a purpose it is to allow us an escape from our daily life for a couple of hours every week or so. It should entertain us and the onus is on the multi millionaire footballers and the manager and owners to provide some semblance of that entertainment on the pitch.
Football exists for and because of the supporters not the other way round.

At least Brighton play some football and you can see a style of play and an identity.

I expect to be unemployed if I don’t meet the basic expectations of my job, as would anyone.

Your stance on the ‘responsibilities’ of fans is really weird by the way. I’ll do my best though mate.

Our responsibility is as custodians of the club to ensure that it strives to meet its own stated ethos of NSNO.

Players and managers just pass through, we are the constants. It is our responsibility to call it as we see it and that manager needs to go now for the good of the entire club.
It may well be weird but it could also be progressive

I don’t think many clubs are tapping into it although there are examples of some that have supportive fan bases and do better on the pitch as a result

Think about it - if you have 30,000 people standing round the side of the football pitch - their actions can have a bearing on results (think re the support vs Arsenal on Monday)

Perhaps some innovative thinking could lead to a different level of fan engagement that helped the team’s success

It seems to me the Everton fan base is more negative than some at present

He’s in desperate need of a good performance tomorrow & let’s be honest bar a couple of wins we haven’t played well all season so it’s highly doubtful we will get one tomorrow.

I really can’t see us winning against Chelsea or even getting a draw, even our best fully fit side I wouldn’t be confident but I fear an embarrassment tbh, I think this will be a Koemanesque performance at Chelsea and we will ship 5 easily.

Leicester is massive on Sunday and could be toxic. I’d bet on this being his last game tbh.

If Benitez can legitimately explain why we're performing considerably worse than last season in every department and stat going, I'm sure most fans would stay quiet.

No @4737carlin, @Kev50 or @Theoneandonly, I think it needs updating.
Some of the good guys.

I’d be careful about bringing the salary into it - I don’t believe it’s relevant

It’s not a reason to hurl abuse at people and impact their mental health - thinking ‘they’re OK because they earn tonnes of money’

I saw Ross Barkley not too long ago away from the pitch and he looked pretty miserable

Anyone in any job will benefit from support and patience through tough times

I believe Benitez deserves time before forming a judgment

Martinez is an example of this - he was given time but for whatever reason didn’t set us up to defend properly - in the end he had to go and rightly so

But Benitez is way off that stage and given his track record elsewhere he may well come good

His main problem, despite having managed Real Madrid, Napoli, Inter, Valencia and Chelsea is that he managed Liverpool and some fans can’t get beyond that
You are another one who is expecting human beings to not have human emotions.

You are right some fans cant get beyond that. What are you expecting to do about it? Just change every fiber of their being?

You may very well be right in an ideal world but that aint how the world works. Peoples feelings, no matter how irrational or unfair matter. They will always matter. Moshiri is a fool for thinking they wouldn't and the people who don't "get" it are just being really weird for me.

Crap metaphor alert....

If football was food it would be like you liking tomatoes and me not liking them because they make me feel sick and then you saying "yeah but I like tomatoes so why don't you? Keep eating tomatoes, I don't see a problem as I like them" It's really odd behavior!

Education?

What about a tactics class for Benitez?

Have also followed the club for 30+ years - not looking down on but seeing big opportunities to improve the way some fans engage, in order to help the success of the club

It may well not be possible though. I don’t think jumping from manager to manager will help though - who would be next and what would happen when they hit a bad patch? At some point someone needs a chance to build something

We’d hoped that would be Ancelotti - him leaving in the way he did is the root cause of some of the issues now and hence think some patience is needed to turn it round
