3 of our finishes have been 11th or below in the last 7 years. 1 was 10th. So over 50% have been 10th or below. Not exactly great whatever way you try to dress it up. Not excusing Benitez either, it's been crap, but I'm willing to give him a chance to bring his own players in to suit his system and see how it goes from there
1 finish was below 11th (the original iffy criteria) if we're being pedantic. I'll level here though- I couldn't be arsed getting into a circuitous debate so gave a cursory validatory response for the giggles.

But you've dangled the carrot now... you're right though, it's not like we've dropped from top 4 finishes to bottom 8 finishes (key word) We've been oscillating between 7th to 12th mostly, so mid table. As @kev pointed out, the season ain't over. Change of manager or new signings might make a difference. Either way, folk will still argue the toss.

Anyhow I'm going back to idly watching the fury....

11th twice and once 12th. So barely bottom half in the last 7 years.

But the main question was - is this disastrous form the result of something that had been brewing for seasons - which is the argument put forward by Benitez acolytes - league placings say no.

Yeah that's the point I was trying to get at, whoever set the "below 11th" criteria was being deliberately selective. 10th, 11th, 12th is not good enough for Everton, no one is happy with those finishes and 4 of our last 7 were in those spots. I'd argue even 8th isn't good enough. I think this season if we get players fit, keep them fit and get some decent reinforcements to play Benitez style then we'll finish 10th to 12th again barring some major bad luck

Our victory over Arsenal the other week, watching them now, and the games they have played since, that was the best win we have had for many years, with Rafael the force behind it

It’s more of a question of - does Benitez have a defence due to prior seasons performance to justify the damage being done now

However you look at the league finishes - they offer him no defence whatsoever for the extended relegation form we are seeing.

Certainly I can’t see what issues he’s inherited that justify it.

Oh look - Arteta is given time and money and Arsenal improve

Moyes was given time and money and WHU improve

Give the fella a chance you mushrooms and lets see where we are after 2 seasons and his own players in the side before demanding yet another managers heed.

No sensible fan wants a club to sack a manager who has only been in charge barely five months especialy when he has spent no money and has never been able to field his strongest team.
I don’t believe for one second if Ancelotti was in a similar position there would be anything like calls for the manager to be sacked and would go as far as to say they would turn on the suits above before the manager. The form or result record would’nt come into it as long as the club was not in relagation danger and no matter what the drama queens say this has not and won’t ever be in the equation because there are some really poor teams in the league.

Benitez has took a job no serious manager would touch with a barge pole despite what some deluded fans think and he should applauded not turned on.

yes, barring the odd eruption the malcontents have now been largely pacified. Thursday was a hammer blow.
Thursday was a decent result and I saw effort on the pitch , I’m deffo a malcontent and I can only speak for myself but all I want to see really is them looking organised and putting a shift in . Give me that when I’ll put up with a lot , It doesn’t feel like I’m asking the world to be honest,

Hi Big Red,

We don’t need head patting and you telling Evertonians that we should be grateful.

Exactly

We are not the utter basket cases the cultists would like to portray us as, with Benitez being cast as a mastermind saving us from inevitable relegation

It’s more a question of him dragging us towards it.

I’m afraid we are, the fact Benitez was appointed Everton manager is a perfect symbol of how much of a basket case we are. The state of the club is on Moshiri.
