Next 6 league games + 1 cup game

18pts on offer and we really should be taking 14pts+ and a cup win.

That puts us on P 23 Pts 34

He then would require another 25pts from 15games to equal Ancelotti.

There is no chance of him getting 14pt and we likely go out of the cup

When we beat them the win was decried by the detractors of our manager as barely worth mentioning because Arsenal apparently were terrible. They don’t look terrible to me.
In that game they were though. They have been one of the form teams over the last few months after a poor start. But against us, they were poor, same as they were poor vs Liverpool.

To act like they weren't either indicates that you didn't watch the game, or that you are trying to twist it in your support for the manager.

We need him to move us forward, no other manager since Moyes has done it, the rot has to stop, Rafael Benitez will have us in better shape going into his third season, he is our troubleshooter
I hope you are correct mate.

But stating the obvious, and it's been said so many times....

After a good start, things went sideways then backwards very quickly.

We all know most injuries can't be helped, but Benitez didn't help the situation by repeating the same mistakes week after week. loss after loss

I suppose time will tell, and looking at the fixtures upcoming, Man City should be the next game where I dont expect a victory ( a draw will do) :)

TBF there should be a good chance of getting 14 points - we've seen very promising performances vs Chelsea from players (Simms, Dobbin, Gordon, Kenny, Branthwaite) who were playing in positions where we are missing senior players / have senior players playing poorly.

A competent manager would say to those players that its their spot now, to keep it (from the senior players and from new signings) that they will have to play well consistently. Doing that is likely to lift the overall mood of the squad, improve results, draw a line in terms of standards that everyone can support and understand and most importantly prevent us spending money that we don't have to.

I do fear though that for our next game at least some of those poor form types - Rondon, Coleman, Townsend - will find themselves back in the starting XI thanks to the manager. I think that would be criminal management and can only apologise in advance to the Luftraffa on here for the abuse that will deservedly rain down upon their heads.

It was a good win but hardly a convincing one and the fact we were so easily and convincingly brushed aside by Palace a few days later points to the Arsenal victory owing a lot to home advantage, and the personal flair of Gray.

This is ridiculous, come on, you could write away any result doing this. ‘We lost to Liverpool because of the personal flair of Salah’.

The manager is accountable for all results, the losses definitely but unfortunately rely for his detractors you have to credit him also with the wins.

Of the kids mentioned only Gordon is realistically going to get meaningful mins unless we still the illness situation like thurs.
He was forced into that, not his doing. He will revert back to Rondon stinking the place

100% agree on all of this, if the manager is this high-standard disciplinarian then we can get behind a young team learning their trade and putting the application in. If, however, as I suspect, the manager is a petty control freak who is playing favourites and trying to get the dissenters sold then he'll have to be held to account accordingly.

Phewee - bit harsh!

Totally agree with your comments about the youth team that showed up vs Chelsea though - they were excellent!

Look at the crap from Martinez to today. That's waht's hurting Everton.

- Benitez is blooding the youngsters (+ Gray and Gordon)
- Building a resilient style of play on a lower wage cap that will endure whilst we build the stadium
- Hopefully get rid of the crap he didn't accumulate

Sometimes he's too negative (e.g. Palace). Equally we have horrendous injuries and he's giving young, domestic youth players a chance which I've wanted for years. Think about Barkley, Coleman etc under Moyes.

I know he's an ex-Red. I trust him more than anyone else we've had barring Moyes (except for Unsworth and Big Dunc who'ce stepped in admirably). We're Everton, we should build from within. And Rafael is doing that.

But he's godda balance it with injuries, FA cup, must win games and not over-playing the youngsters though.

I hate to say look at Klopp but look at the backbone he's built there with Milner, Henderson, Ox, TAA, Robertson, Gomez, Harvey Elliot. Curtis Jones, Williams.

If Rafael builds a British based squad that looks like Thursday night and that has us in top half whilst Bramley dock goes up he's achieved what Moyes, Dyche, Howe, Potter etc have done. Just a shame they never get the credit for what these immensely difficult achievements are.

Most teams when they lose games don’t play well. You can probably invalidate every single win this season for us by claiming the opposition played poorly (which I’m sure you’ll probably have a go at doing)

No I won't do that. I think even in some of our wins we have looked poor for large periods, but the short periods when we have switched on, we have looked excellent at times, and when we look excellent, we can be near unplayable. We aren't doing it anywhere near enough though. That's no comment on the other teams as I think saints were all over us that first half, same as vs Burnley until we had that 15 min spell etc. They didn't have poor games, maybe some poor finishing and good goalkeeping by pickford.

But arsenal did look poor in that game. And at 60 mins decided to try and see out a 1 nil win and were time wasting etc.
