Great post mate.

When did he ever do a job at a club in our situation? No long term vision or strategy behind his appointment at all.

We were a blank canvas in the summer - an opportunity to appoint a manager and give them freedom and time to reshape the club in their vision….and we chose him. A man whose ambition is to get us playing like a lower half [Poor language removed] Newcastle team. Incredible.

I was fine with him coming in for a few seasons to play crap boring football and keep us hovering around mid/lower half of the league until we could spend some money again. So, reluctantly, were lots of others.

Would anybody at the start of the season accepted Benitez’ appointment if the mission statement was this guy is going to get the freedom to call all the shots at the club and completely rebuild it as he sees fit? Nobody would, surely.

We’re doing a complete rebuild with a man that wants to play reactionary, dull, negative football. This should have been a long term appointment with some vision behind it, fans would have given the right man time. This isn’t the right man and some are oddly lapping it up.
Our long term visionary left for Madrid.

Probably not. A lot of people seem to really loathe the guy, which is a bit of a shame. Did well for us over a very long period of underinvestment.
Moyes was brilliant at stabilising the club and he gave us something to actually cheer on the pitch with the team of fighters that he built. However he then very publicly patted us on the head and insulted the club and fans who made his name.

But yes of course I would take him here in the morning ahead of the manager.

To be honest, I always felt he was just trying to tell the truth to the fans. We tended to overperform relative to our investment. He was barely able to make transfers at the end! A lot of people in his shoes would have walked long before.

Have to disagree with that. Saying that we were holding back Baines and Felli by not selling them was classless.

Moyes was never going to walk to a bigger club than us until United chose him as the fall guy. He was only chosen then due to Van Gaal’s unavailability.

Would make a great DoF though and I would trust his judgement infinitely more than this manager.

Well yeah, but that was all blown out of proportion. A stupid thing to say, but he hardly lambasted the club.

That said, didn’t he turn down offers from the likes of Celtic and Spurs when he was here? Pretty sure there were quite a few others.

I also don’t buy the LVG thing at all. I have always felt Ferguson deliberately set it up so Moyes would take over as they had quite a close relationship.
