Took Sheffield United down? Not like he took Newcastle United down

If Dyche and Wilder are the sort of names in the frame for a replacement then no wonder Moshiri completely ignores the fan base.

Wilder had a squad he had built and had been with him for years, had already had a season in the premier league then we’re absolutely abysmal. Benitez got parachuted into a Newcastle squad that wasn’t his, got relegated, won the championship, then had them in tenth. How are these tenures similar?

Wilder was much better at Sheff Utd than Benitez at Newcastle. He left them 2 divisions higher for a start - albeit facing a very predictable relegation given their meagre budget.

The tenures are different, I think Wilder took Sheffield United up 2 divisions and got them they're highest finish ever and then essentially took the down.

Benitez took a side down that should never have got relegated. Got them promoted and finished around mid table. Steve Bruce then matched those finishes.

Dyche has done similar Benitez, but with less money. I happen to think Dyche would be a good option for us and has worked wonders at Burnley.

All are different of course, but the managerial performance is similar. I suspect Moshiri likes the experience and clout Benitez has (if you're being kind, or B/s if you're not feeling kind). But a lot of Benitez supporters want to put him in the bracket of your top managers. He's just not for me. He's in the league of the managers above. In honesty, he's a poor mans David Moyes, who also finished above him with far inferior budgets.

He’s started one of the oldest line ups in the prem tonight. I’m sure he’d be starting Simms Dobbin Branthwaite and Gordon all together in games left right and centre

Dyche reminds me of early Moyes, and he has developed some younger players, but they don't have the pull or frankly the academy of Everton. He knows how to organise defences.

So you say sinking. That would imply going down the table. Except last season we finished 10th. Only 8 points from 4th and 6 points off 6th.

That was after finishing 12th the previous season (when the manager came in when we were only 4 points out of the relegation zone and in 15th, spent no money in the transfer window, but he was able to average 1.5 points per game for the rest of that season.) Take that over the whole season and he would have got 57 points and finished top 8.

The following season he did just that, and got 59 points but unfortunately, that only got 10th (would have got top 8 in all but 1 of the previous 20 years).

What he proved is that the squad is capable of getting points totals required for top 8. And actually would have done so, had it not been for Silva.

It's very disingenuous to act as if we are on a downward spiral, because on the pitch we haven't been, until this season. If he gets less points than last season, hell, less than 57, he has failed. Because this squad have shown they can do that.
I honestly think last seasons after Xmas form under Ancelotti would of continued into this season myself.. it was a runaway train going downhill. I think one of the first things Benitez needed to do was to somehow put the brakes on that.. yes results have been bad but for me given the hand he has been dealt with since arriving it was always going to be a slow burner before he put things right.
This is why the time to judge is at the end of the season and after he has had a summer transfer window to work in., just give him the same time and money as the five previous managers.. surely that’s fair..

Have to pot this fool and pull out all the stops to bring Kovac in.

Obviously we won’t do that, but the point is if we had some balls we could bring in a better manager.

Kovacs an interesting one

Very good at Frankfurt, relativly poor at Bayern and i've no idea why Monaco canned him

He'll probably end up winning Europa with Leicester or Bayer Leverkuesen in a few years while we are stuck with Benitez

A good point - a very poor man’s David Moyes is exactly how I’d describe him

Hello mate. Perhaps you might want to have a try at answering that one for us? You're clearly knowledgeable about footy, so maybe give us a hint of who could do a better job than Benitez?

Unless you are saying he is the only possible choice. Just curious, as that is a strange position to take in my view.
I just think Benitez is the right appointment for what the club requires at this precise time in its history... he has a wealth of experience and knows the game inside out... the thing I think is really important is he wants to get involved in every aspect of the club from top to bottom which given the way the club has been run over the years is no bad thing.. couldn’t be any worse in fact..
Everybody knows Benitez is first person in of a morning.. last to leave of a night and leaves no stone unturned in trying to make the Club he’s employed for a success..that’s why he was appointed and is exactly what the club needs right now..
To compare him next to names like Ferguson.. Rooney.. Potter and Nuno who were the only other ones is a complete joke just like the people on here who seem to think top managers are breaking down the door to take the Everton job.. maybe 30 years ago.. definately not now....
