Funny thing is these brainless players seemed to defend set pieces and track their men better than most teams in the league last season, now, they are amongst the worst teams at defending set pieces in the league. By the way, this has happened since Benitez came in, the players are the same, the system as been changed, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.

I suppose that you are aware, we have already conceded more from set pieces up to now this season than we did in the whole of last season. He has set the defence up shambolicaly.

This is the main point that stands out a million miles.

Ancelotti congested the box. Raffa wants them to attack zones and leave players..

Maybe you can address the matter at hand instead of barfing up the old 'good blue, bad blue' cliché.
Did you or did you not save the @banno comment (ripped out of context) to score some cheap likes after an Everton loss, when emotions run high.
If not, why wait 7 days to react? Just after a painful loss?
I react to what I read, when I read. I see that your defence of the indefensible stretches beyond Benitez incompetence!

Because it's zonal, you attack the space. He's gone and mistimed it. Player error...but not against Raffa's instructions on the system.

But why is Keane back post anyway? Surely the "better" header of a ball should be in the middle of the box? He's got Dom (the best header of a ball we have), at the front post too.

These aren't isolated incidents either being we have the worst defence against set pieces
Come on now…… what was his zone? The entire 6 yard box?
The manager doesn’t appear to be tailoring the set piece tactics to the players at his disposal, but whatever Keane was doing there wasn’t by design / instruction.

But Benitez (and his coaching staff) have never done man to man marking in their career. They have always preferred zonal, many other top teams do too. When you choose Benitez as manager, you get a zonal system.

When you change from man to man to zonal, especially when many of these players have never used a zonal system before, it’s fair to say you’ll see some teething issues initially.

Good managers get the best out of their players. They don't insist on methods which their players cannot implement.

Call me old fashioned but I hate zonal marking. It lends itself to a culture of a lack of responsibility and accountability. Everyone is happy to leave the job to someone else. It goes against what is important in team sport.

We aren't even remotely organised and set up properly for zonal defending anyway. We are just lined up in a row. Who on earth came up with that tosh.

Indeed they were crap under Carlo and remain crap under Tapastits, but if you think he’s acting under instruction in the top image to leave two players unmarked in that much space we will have to agree to disagree.
Be interesting if you can put up Keanes starting position from about 5 seconds prior to that still.

It was me who found that post from @banno while I was catching up on the posts I had missed in this thread over the last 2 weeks. I saw it and I thought it deserved a response even if I was a week late in reading it.

Don't know how you can accuse anyone of point scoring when @banno was openly talking about taking a positive stance on Benitez in an effort to wind up their fellow blues. Seems like that accusation should be levelled at @banno and nobody else.

Looks like you're trying to score some points yourself here.

Again it's zonal so players have to attack the ball.

He's made the wrong decision...but it's what they're instructed to do

No doubt if we win the next game by chance, good luck or played well he will claim the players followed his plan and thus take credit.

Thats me for now no more comments on this waste of space.
It will be followed by the typical suspects coming in this thread and giving out grief to fellow blues just like the rescued point at Chelsea saw.

Now we've lost again some of them are pretending they're "indifferent" but we all know they'd be giving it both barrels in here had we won.

If Dunc gets the gig I'll do my best to hound him out mate im sorry.

I can't watch a hero of mine be ruined by our gutless squad.
So your stance is we need to give Benitez time "because new managers need time" but if the guy who replaces him isn't up to your liking you'll do your best to try to get him sacked before he has any time?

We are in January like , any idea when the manager will have sorted out these teething problems , Are we hopeful it’ll be before may ?

You’d think he might have used the weeks since we last played to maybe work on it , yesterday indicated apparently not .

That's what the all do now...look at each other and go "aaaaaaw maaaaan"

??????

You’d hound out “a hero of yours”, yet you continue to back Benitez who has us on the worst run of form for 30 years?

Bizarre!

Whoever gets this job next will be on a hiding to nothing with this rotten squad.

We all seen the state of El Loco, Koeman and Silva on the eve of their sackings.

I wont sit back and see Dunc reduced to that I would hope he got put out of his misery quickly and humanely.

Until he replaces the entire back line....
