Benítez made frequent references to Reid and said they were not a criticism of the club legend but an example of the winning mentality that needs rebuilding at Everton.

He said: “When I was talking about Peter Reid, I was talking about someone who cares, who was always pushing for the best from everyone on the pitch. That was the idea. So when I talk about that I am talking about myself also wanting everything from the players. When they do not do that, I can be upset.”

Complete coincidence that of all the people from Everton's past he could have named he chose someone who'd made a critical comment on social media at the weekend then yes. If you really believe that then all your posts about believing what Benitez said about Digne have just lost all their credibility.

No, most likely over several years. That is obviously not the only factor.

Another factor is that Benitez inherits a team that is among the least trained in the PL, especially after Ancelotti's regime. Basically the only thing they can do is defend themselves within the penalty area, make a long pass up to DCL, get a corner, and maybe score. Fortunately, Gray and AT have been good signings. Gordon was loaned out last season. Luckily we have someone who trained a little last season.

And now we have Benitez we can't even do that.

Imagine being excited because we might beat Hull & Norwich . Let the good times roll , this bloke has transformed us that’s for sure .It’s a minimum Expectation we win both and we need to .

Anyone hoping he loses I’m afraid that’s not an option we’re running out of winnable games we need them league wins and points on the board asap . I think its a big ask but the next few games we need wins if he’ll have done what nobody’s done in most of our lifetimes and I’ll always remember whose responsibility it is and who cheered it on . Fingers crossed the new players help and we start putting this relegation issue and the season in the rear view .
