Think the key difference was that Newcastle had had a pretty horrendous season and were already second bottom when Benitez took over. He had very little time to drag them out of the rut they were in.

At least we've hovered pretty safely above the bottom 3 so far.

No, most likely over several years. That is obviously not the only factor.

Another factor is that Benitez inherits a team that is among the least trained in the PL, especially after Ancelotti's regime. Basically the only thing they can do is defend themselves within the penalty area, make a long pass up to DCL, get a corner, and maybe score. Fortunately, Gray and AT have been good signings. Gordon was loaned out last season. Luckily we have someone who trained a little last season.

Given we've got 19 points from 18 games, perhaps we should look at the guy who has recently started training them and reassess?

He obviously couldn’t care less, as the only thing that seems to matter to him, is that his Supreme Leader Benitez remains in charge, to “ rip the club apart “ so that we can start again.
