It must have been as Carlo still had a job last season and would have still had one this season after finishing 10th.

People can talk about agendas but we all know any manager other than Benitez and Alladyce would be given much more support by the fanbase after spending just £1.5m in the summer window.

If people dont like the manager thats fair enough but lets not pretend that the anti Benitez crowd dont have an axe to grind. Its up to the more rational supporters to ensure the manager is given support when its warranted.

You`re back peddling faster than Michael Jackson moonwalking.

But you keep saying how bad we were under Ancelotti and how great we are/we're gonna be under your new pig idol.

So you can't say we were crap but Villa are above average when they finished below us.

We were bad under Ancelotti after that initial burst at the seasons start. He had to play 4x CB's because he couldn't stop us leaking goals. He then couldn't do anything but try win games of football 1-0 and hold on for dear life which largely came from set pieces outside of the odd good game like Anfield or the 5-4 Spurs game. Villa weren't much better but they have added 3-4 good additions to their squad this summer.

It's too early to say what we'll be under Benitez as I dont trust this current squad of players mate but so far the signs are good - we're pressing the opposition more, putting in more effort, scoring goals from open play and having a decent system with Doucoure bursting forward and the likes of Gray and Townsend getting in pockets of space.

When DCL is back fully fit you'll imagine he'll also benefit from having Townsend fizzing balls in from out wide.

TL,DR

All I expect is 110% effort from manager and team.
Blood sweat and tears.

Benitez will have us playing like Burnley probably, don't care. Fight it out and try to get a result.

It's progres we need. Progress. As long as we better ourselves, I'm content.
He'll get us there, he's no Sam Allardyce, like @messymascot is insinuating.
Just putting these two quotes together in the hope someone can explain what @FrenchDarrenBent means?

Not just steamrolling, we have to be ahead at half time & scoring all the time. Scoring three within 9 minutes is not good enough!

True I've never been more embarassed to be an Evertonian than I have these past few months with those banners, meltdoon over a pre season friendly defeat etc.

Hopefully once it becomes clear Benitez is here for the next few years the dissenters will down tools and get behind the team but at present we are winning games 3-1 / 2-0 playing decent football and some fans cant enjoy it.

Strange and sad at the same time.

We're both very similar strength sides therefore playing away from home with 4 first team players out and a LB chucking balls into his own net we were always losing that game.

Put that game at Goodison park under the lights, DCL, Richarlison, Pickford & Coleman fit with Villa without Ings, Bailey, Cash & Martinez and we likely win that game.

Average teams are your Newcastles of the league not Villa's, West Ham's etc who are all credible sides fighting for europe these days.

Rational fans can see that whereas others just want to have a pop at the manager whenever we aint steam rolling teams with half our team out with injury.
But you are excusing benitez for Injuries and saying that what rational fans do, saying we played crap under Ancelotti, despite the ridiculous injury list we had in the second half of last season. Maybe you should try being rational.

Ancelotti had injuries of course but outside of a handful of games he still had us playing awful football looking to nick every game 1-0.

It was worse than anything Alladyce served up.
