…I assure you, he’s a million miles away from being an Evertonian. He’s a manager with a big ego, he won’t have any affinity to Everton except he wants us to win every game for himself. He won’t go home of a night and put his Everton PJs on.

Thats the reality of professional managers, it’s not near as romantic as you seem to think.
A manager with a big ego who wants to win for himself? Perfect!

Wayne Rooney is a Blue, sleeps in EFC PJs, plays Z cars on his way into Moor Farm training ground. Wouldn't want him anywhere near our team as a manager.

I'll take a professional egotistical win monger any day of the week.

The frustration of Saturday was that in the 2nd half, we didn’t play great or do anything special, we just played with intensity and swamped Southampton with our direct play.

Frustrating in that had we done this just once in all those limp Goodson defeats last year, we’d be in Europe now.
Down to man management me thinks.

There's a few of them mate. The E-v and Top B-i-n-s etc. Been going for many years.

I'd have preferred it to change to Benitez but then you'd have lots of Benitez Benitez.
Won’t affect my posts, I always refer to him as Benitez, I can’t see that changing any time soon. He’s not my mate, he’s a person, whose personality I don’t particularly care for, who has been employed by Everton. I wish him, and us, every success, but, I doubt if I can ever do more than tolerate him.

I just listened to the Guardian Football podcast and when one of the pundits was asked what the difference between the first and second half was he answered " Benitez". He then quoted a stat I found actually incredible. He said of 59 games since December 2017 that Everton conceded a goal first they only went on to win 2 of them. I knew we were bad at coming back but not that bad.

It's one game and arguably only a decent half against a less than great opponent.

But. In context of taking a right beating in the final pre-season friendly and going a goal down early doors, the scene was set for things to go really wrong. Good character shown second half when we know this lot could easily wilt.

My view is that Benitez has to be given credit for getting a tune out of the squad and not letting them wilt. Ditto the players, good to see. One game, but I'll be happy if backbone remains a feature.

In all honesty I’m more surprised by the 2

Yep. I can forgive a lack of talent but not a lack of intensity and effort.
