I don’t agree. A micro manager to me suggests repetitive turgid football. From what I’ve seen so far we have had more out of your seat exciting football this season than we have witnessed in the last five. Just my opinion and I’m not suggesting that Benitez is the messiah just happy with the little chinks of excitement coming through
I think micro-managing CAN end up repetitive and turgid but if it involves countering at pace, for example, need not be so.

…I might be against Benitez’s appointment but I’ve never criticised him as a coach. Indeed I think he’s a proper football man.

i really like some of the feedback from individual players, it’s a really good insight. I think he lives football, I think that’s why he likes to control.

Agree with this. Still not fully on board after being 'burnt' last year but am hopeful that it will be different this time. I think some of our players actually need micro-managed. Someone previously (or in a different thread) mentioned the players as the 'common denominator' and thought it was a valid point.

I think everything is so precise at this level that everything about the players lives, their training tactics and game management is micro managed.
Even CA who would not appear to be this kind of manager will have had support staff around him who controlled everything to the ultimate degree.

When people talk about introducing young academy players or settling in new players or players adapting to a new managers demands I think very few realise the absolute level of detail reguired.

I know of one rugby coach, maybe they all do this, who had a book of the plays that he presented to any new player joining his squad and that players had to become absolutely comfortable with every detail and there were dozens of them.

Your views on Benitez sound very similar to mine. I never wanted him but I can see he's got his good attributes. I just don't like defensive minded managers and he falls into that category.

I was scratching my head at the appointment but I’m willing to give him a chance and there certainly have been positive signs.

I can’t see us getting burnt, well at least by him walking out. Benitez doesn’t really have anywhere to go and Ancelotti was one of a small handful of managers that are considered able to walk into Real Madrid and command the respect of the players.

I fear this thread could explode in the next few weeks.
But i still think thats more to do with the squad than the manager.
Id love a whole new defence.

They were doing great until the injuries hit us last year.

Won about 3 of our last 12 games when we had a fully fit squad in the last part of the season. We actually did alright when we had loads of injuries and were playing 4 centre backs around Christmas time. Not playing any kind of football or anything, but actually getting results.

The regressive football began when the injuries started hitting.

Hes not a defensive minded manager, he is more about finding balance.

He holds the record of the most goals scored in the champions league with 2 teams , see previous coach.
look at the number of goals scored by everton thus far.

I suggest fans should research RB facts.
