He had relatively big backing at Liverpool and Napoli.

The thing for me with Benitez is that he has struggled at the elite level. Inter, Real Madrid and to a degree Chelsea etc, where there was an expectation to not only win, but win ugly. At Liverpool, Newcastle, Napoli, ourselves (and I know Liverpool seems odd, but they were on the wain when he went there) there is a slightly lower expectation which seems to suit him.

At Chelsea I think he did fine tbh mate, qualified them for the CL won a European trophy against a toxic backdrop from their fans.

Inter he inherited a poison chalice from Mourinho was a really ageing team Mourinho had built purely to peak for one season and he worked it to death then left.

Madrid was a huge failure, mainly down to his work ethics and constant advice being completely unpalatable too way too many of their Galacticos

He was fine at Chelsea but not his best work. Chelsea were a bigger club then though TBF (which I know sounds mad). He seems to struggle at the very top level, but the rung down, is comfortable. Valencia was another in that 2nd tier.

If a 58% win record and a Europa cup from a squad that were struggling badly and fans that were openly hostile to him is struggling then I would be happy for him to struggle here too. :)

Yeah I think people like to say anything to suit their agenda. Can't just leave it at Inter and Madrid, because that doesn't sound as good. As everyone knows Madrid is a poor job.

The Madrid one wasn't really his fault bar from coming in and probably asking the players to work harder and that core group that had been there for years rebelled.

The Inter Milan one was definitely a mark on his record though.

You want your manager to take digs at your biggest rivals when they can.
Do we? I don't personally. I like a classy manager with a bit of decorum.

Not saying he isn't that either, everyone is allowed a slip up.

Whilst I am here, this Newcastle link is proper make believe stuff. We will be his last job I reckon.

Huge failure is a bit of a stretch.

Top of their champions league group, most goals in Europe.

3rd in La Liga, most goals scored by some distance, best goal difference. 4 points off top, 1 point off 2nd.

For all we know he could have won the champions league and finished 2nd.

The issue was Ronaldo threw his toys out the pram because Rafael refused to call him the best player in the world.

I don't see why he would go to work for Newcastle over us.

I may be wrong but this is how I see it. Our owners are willing to spend and spend a lot, their owners apparently (although yet to be proven) have a bottomless pit of cash. But eventually ffp comes into the equation.

When we first got Moshiri we spent all the way until ffp wouldn't allow anymore. Newcastle reportedly can spend up to 200 million before reaching ffp constraints. Well in this day and age that isn't really very much and realistically that may only get them to where we are now. Not to mention who is going to want to sign for them? They will be buying in the kind of market we were 4 years ago, unless if they burst the bank on wages (offering double what a champions league team would) which they won't as it will affect their ffp situation.

Now we have offloaded a few players we are in a much better position and have some movement room in the market. So we are in a much better position than they are to kick on at this moment in time.

They will need to go through the process that city did if that's their ambition and it took city 3 or 4 seasons to even get top 4 after investment. And it will be harder for them than it was for city for two reasons. Firstly ffp as mentioned before wasn't a factor for city. Secondly there is significantly more competition now in the league than there was back then.
