The feller's just won the biggest prize in South American football and been called up to play for Argentina.

Maybe someone should tell his managers a massive mistake has been made because some pencil pushing tit called Vickery thinks he's garbage?

A bit harsh on Vickery. Whenever I listen to him he does seem a cut above your average sports and media journalist. However football is about opinions. He has his opinion and is welcome to it, but there are others that might contradict it.

He's being brought in as a 3rd choice. The South American market is a bit untapped. Lets see how he does before we caste him aside as the next Alcaraz.

Looks like this will be good deal this.
5m isnt much these days. Lad is 24 and has potential to be a monster.

Exotic signing fosho :) surely will bring competition and will seriously motivate our young CBs especially.

Cant believe the fume on here.... what ever EFC do they get criticised.

It is obvious that this signing is a back up and if it progresses well, will be a solid investment. 5 million?? no brainer, why waste over 8-10 million on a player that if injuries are favourable will play 10-15 games a year including cups.

Do you really think the celtic lad would come to us without some assurances that he will be one of the main CBs.... never

Is it about buying either an over the hill established player who is happy to warm the bench and take the wages OR bring in a rough diamond and develop but is good enough to provide cover. By taking this route, RM can man manage the player and expectations without disruption and tantrums.. Distin ..... with the added additon of a sell on value if it goes pete tong.... he is young and an international player for Argentina, we would easlily recoup our outlay

For me, keep Stones, develop the kid , introduce slowly and use the finances where we really need it...

For me, well done RM for not taking the easy route and buying and paying big wages for an established defender who is happy to come to the club and take the wage. This is deffo a purchase with a claculated risk but could turn to be a gem..

It's the type of transfer you'd have associated with Martinez before he came and what people were excited to see when he arrived, I expect the reason people aren't enthused is the smell of Chelsea hanging round in the background like a stale fart.

"At 6 foot three, Funes Mori is a powerful and aggressive central defender who poses an aerial presence in both penalty boxes."

That'll do for starters! Maybe he'll show Jagielka how it's done.

Which limb should I get my tattoo on....?
Gonna wait till I see him with contract bloke and blue tiles behind him.

having players even coming off the bench who can cause trouble and deal with it at set pieces will be a big plus and we have missed Fellaini for that. just need someone who can take a corner now that we have loaned out Garbutt

He's from billions of miles away and has an exotic name...football skills are totally irrelevant

He can also say 'Solo lo mejor' so I'm all in

Blows my mind how you can knock Jagielka as a defender. Did you not see him against somebody 4 inches taller than him on Saturday?

I know you don't like him mate, but I do think Jagielka has been very good for us recently. His blocks against Southampton were invaluable. He's not the long term option by any stretch but in the short term he has done very well.

Mori possesses all the right attributes. He will take some time to settle in though. In an ideal world we will not sell Stones and have him as a back up. If Stones were to go, getting Van Dijk in would make a lot of sense.

Contrary to widespread opinion I have been quite surprised with how defenders have developed under Martinez. If you consider Stones, Galloway, Garbutt & Browning. None of those lads looked anywhere near the first 11 under Moyes (Galloway wasn't signed but wouldn't have been) but Martinez has brought them on to look to be quite a competent back four (if they were all to play).

Martinez clearly wants powerful, quick defenders who are comfortable on the ball. He saw something in Browning. I hope this lad can fit the bill and with a bit of luck we can ease him in over the next 12 months.

There will be people who write them off. They are not wrong. I have never seen him play. But given the price is around half of what United want for Evans, or Palace want for Dann it may be a decent buy.

Yes I think that too. I suspect Mori was going to be signed irrespective of the Stones situation. If we see another player signing like Evans then we need to worry.
