I am really confused now....
Should I fume or not...
We have(apparently) signed a new player..that is good.
Some people think he is useless....that is bad.
He has not apparently played for Wigan..could be good or bad
That just about sums up the situation,or maybe we should have cashed in on Stones then had to pay 15m for him.

Contrary to widespread opinion I have been quite surprised with how defenders have developed under Martinez. If you consider Stones, Galloway, Garbutt & Browning. None of those lads looked anywhere near the first 11 under Moyes (Galloway wasn't signed but wouldn't have been) but Martinez has brought them on to look to be quite a competent back four (if they were all to play).

.
Don't really see that,as Moyes signed Stones.

Also rules out van Dijk though.

That said, made up it rules out Jonny Evans obviously.

Could be decent, could be awful. Got a feeling we won't know really for a good 12 months either way, much like Besic who we still simply don't know about.

Ha ha 12 months. A bit optimistic. I reckon his first pass will tell most Evertonians if he is the new John Stones or Alcarez. If his pass is a goodun then we have the new Stonesy if not.....well you know the rest and you also know the goodison crowd. We are an impatient lot. :)

Yes I think that too. I suspect Mori was going to be signed irrespective of the Stones situation. If we see another player signing like Evans then we need to worry.
This.

We all know we needed a 3rd centre back at an age in between Jags and Stones and this guy appears to be it. If we are linked to another centre back we can panic. As it is I am happy for Galloway and Browning to be the spare option and play in cups when needed as they both look good players for the future and need match time to get experience.

Did Moyes play him? He was nurtured by Martinez. I also feel that if Moyes was still here then Distin would still be here and Stones woud not be a regular IMO
Thats true,I was just commenting on the idea that Moyes would sign a young defender from a lower division like Stones, but for some reason not Galloway.

We've got to give the lad a chance, still relatively young. You only have to look at de Michels at city. Really experienced player and international but ridiculed in his first year, but last year was one of their better defensive players. It goes to show that if an experienced international can struggle to adapt, then we should give mori time to adapt.

Wasn't a signing I expected given Bob's comments early in the summer about wanting someone established to put pressure on Jags and Stones. Was thinking it would be an Evans, Davies, Dann type signing.
Got to give the lad a chance though but would be nervous if Jags or Stones picked up a long injury and he was thrown straight in.

Re: work permit. Does the fact he's been called up for a couple of international friendlies in September make any difference for us?

Maybe and you can understand.. that the three you mentioned wanted guarantees that they would start considering they were integral players for the teams they left ( albeit Evans)

Would you have agreed and dropped Stones...? not going to drop his captian
Perfect excuse and less hassle to sell Stones and move on...

Everthing on the net lists him as 6'1ish, not 6'3, so not sure where that came from. Regardless it seems he's an aerial threat, and we sorely need that.
