It is incredibly revisionist. I blame Twitter, you get all these people who have never kicked a ball in anger saying it was DEFINITELY intent to injure when anyone who has ever played football knows tackles like that happen accidentally and when they do the overwhelming majority of people feel very guilty for injuring someone.

I mean, I suppose he could have shown some pride by actually doing what he gets paid for. But failing that, grabbing the badge after completely ruining your teams chances in 2 separate games is probably the next best bet.
