One little thing I picked up on Saturday was in the first half, Bournemouth knocked a ball down the channel, but head height for Funes to just head away comfortably. Instead he let it go over his head, I think he was hoping he'd gather possession again or shepherd it out. Instead that Josh King (who had a decent game to be fair) ran him all the way and won a corner. It's small moments like that which seperate decent defenders from the quality defenders we require.

He's been more than adequate cover though and he gives his all.
Yeah I agree totally. He did a similar thing a little bit later too, and on both occasions he let the attacker get the wrong side of him. He's be no means a terrible player, but he makes far too many little errors for my liking. I just never feel totally secure with him.

We still have weaknesses in the back four that will cost us at some point. Williams at times was shocking on Saturday and Mori, more so, has a mistake in him. I think I'll be berating him at some point before the season is done.

You do realise a player can make a mistake without it leading to a goal every single time?

One goal conceded in four matches before the Bournemouth game hardly backs up your argument that
Mori is a ball watcher. It was our missing midfield that allowed the opposition fifteen minutes of total domination,
acted upon by Wilshire, who were the main culprits.

All this chat about Mori not providing enough confidence is not backed up by the stats. Look at our away day disasters this season and you can point the finger at Jags not Mori.

The chat reminds me about the experts on here who said that Robles was two-bob....

Thank you for this Funes :p

Seriously speaking, FM has a lot of potential. He is the best defender of in the Arg national team nowadays, even better than Otamendi

He is still a young player, i think we should mantain him in the imitial XI for at least a whole season, he will make some mistakes, but he will be a great player in the long run for us.

Ah, another one in the 'we didn't concede so we must have defended really well' camp.

I thought this argument had been put to bed last season when people kept saying we'd sorted our defensive issues, only for us to go and get thoroughly walloped in the next game. We've tightened up defensively, but we've still given away more than enough chances in recent games for it to be really clear that we've still got issues. The fact that City and Palace failed to take advantage of some of our errors doesn't mean they didn't happen.

Seems to lack spacial awarness of players around him at critical times. I watched micheal keanes performance for burnley v watford on the highlights show and he was absolute gash and he is supposed to be lined up as a possible replacement.

1.45min. Rush of blood to the head and he charges out needlessly towards the play leaving Crouch completely unmarked 12 yards out. He doesn't sense where the real danger is which I believe shows a lack of defensive instinct. As far as I can see he does this countless times throughout games for us. It's unfortunate because he's good in almost every department except for his positioning.

I can guarantee you he'll be the first one Koeman will want replaced in the summer.

I like the lad and he definitely gets Everton but I don't think he's cut out for this league where mistakes get capitalised on a lot more. If someone like Villareal or Leverkusen (swap for Tah?!) came in with £18m and we could get Keane/VvD/whoever for 40-45m.

It would make us so much better off as we need to play 3 at the back to accomodate him and while thats working great at the moment, its arguably our weakest position

He is a very good player to have in the squad, jags will likely be gone next season, whilst williams isn't getting any younger either. It's generally hard to find those left footed centre backs available, and even if we signed keane or virgil or whoever we still need an array of defenders. Especially to cope in Europe.

We don't need to sell, and to be honest I don't think we will any time soon.

Constantly has a mistake in him. Lol @ that shout above about him having potential, he's 26 in a month and we signed him for 9 million quid back when that was decent money.

The things he does wrong are criminal things for a defender to be doing like not tracking runners, letting the ball bounce, scuffing clearances, and so on.

He can stay in the squad but he shouldn't be starting next season, end of.

I mean, I'd have him over Jags like, but we need a new signing at CB in the summer IMO, because sadly Funes Mori just isn't first team quality for me

As soon as Pennington is back to full fitness I'd put him in the back 3 with Williams and Holgate till the end of the season so he can get some more first team experience. Williams will take care of the two younger lads

Good god man, pull yourself together
