Random things you hate in football

1. Players deliberately stopping the opposing player getting to the ball in order to win a goal kick while making no attempt to play the ball. It used to be called obstruction.
2. The outlawing of the tackle.
3. Average at best footballers being described as legends.
4. Bill Kenwright
5. The bookies who continue to give crap odds on hibbert scoring, even though we all know he never will.

I disagree, but we won't go into that.

Speaking of American Football/Rugby, I think Sylvain Distin chose the wrong profession, personally.

Either that, or he just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face. Or in a Roman arena, taking his sword to other gladiators like him.

No worries. It's ok to disagree.

Re: Distin, he's built like a classic linebacker in American Football.

Agree completely with 1, who wants to watch that?

I will say that obstruction calls where the defender doesn't move are ridiculous. What happened to the attacker going around defenders? Why does he have the right to run defenders over?

Makes me think of Howard in a way and having the pen against him. I don't know what he could have done to prevent getting ran over

Agree, how is it any different than a trailing leg buying a call? If Howard is standing there, and Anelka goes out of his way to run into him, how is that a foul on Howard?

Tradionally, what position has the biggest players in American football?

Usually the offensive tackles. They need to be tall and big, anywhere from 6'4" to 6'8". 290 to 330 lbs.

Distin is probably a bit small for a linebacker, they're normaly 240-250 lbs. But Distin looks like he could carry the weight, it's just a matter of training for a different sport.

I think so, he's six foot four and the different training regime would obviously give him a different type of build. He's also really explosive for a man of his size. Pound for pound, I'd say he's one of the best athletes in Soccer. I remember our American fitness coach saying that Lescott also has that type of size and build.

Did Oguchi Onyewu play American Football?

Not that I'm aware.. Might have as a kid, nothing serious though..

1. When a keeper storms out of his goal to contest a decision that's a considerable distance away. Reina is horrendous for this.

2. When a team are trying to keep the ball in the corner flag to hold on to a result. I have no problem with this, it's part of the game. They've got themselves in that position, they can do what they like. What really infuriates me is when the referee/linesman blow for a free kick for nothing to prevent a frustrated reckless challenge/because they dont think it's ethical.

3. The FA. I dont think an explanation is needed, but particularly their ineptness with disciplinary procedures and the completely absence of common sense.

4. Fans who cry about player wages. The players are at the top of their profession, people who reach that standard in their most professions are generally paid handsomely. It's a short career and the risks involved to get to the top in football are considerable. Those who have friends/family playing in a professional teams youth team will know what I'm talking about. Monday to Friday, 17:00-21:00, Saturday 09:00-18:00. Goodbye education and social life. There's a ridiculous amount of money involved in the game, it's idealistic to think all this could filter back to the fans so where else should the money go? - If not to the players, you'd suddenly find bribery allegations becoming common. What makes me sad is seeing certain ex-Everton legends having to struggle/work in their old age now because they weren't paid enough in their playing days.

5. Tony Pulis' Cap.

What annoys you most in football?

No ones paid enough. What makes football any different from anything else in life? Short career my arse they earn enough in 3 yrs to live in a mansion forever and am sick to death of throwin money at them so they can drive farraris and rip us to death. Too many riding the gravy train here and most fans are oblivious to it. Sorry mate but i love football and hate the the thought that i work 50 hrs a week and risk my life to help fund theyre life style.

Yeah put him in on an NFL training program and diet and he'd be 250 solid muscle in no time. Onyewu never played American Football. He's a first generation Nigerian/American and his dad was a pro footy player so I don't think he ever thought about it.

Yakubu is another one built like a fullback (american football fullback - the guy who blocks for the ball carrier).

Yep, and it's not as though we all have jobs for life is it
