RB Leipzig

1-0 opening day defeat to Mainz but I had Mainz to win on my acca so I'm happy either way.

Very sluggish game, strange lineup, strange tactics, Mainz played out of their COVID-riddled skins for 30 minutes which was enough. Onto Stuttgart Friday.

who was it you needed then

Needed the defender to not spoon a goal to the opponent, needed Laimer in midfield with legs, needed Poulsen for the counter-press, needed everyone to put more effort in.

A guy that can't hit a barn door (Sorloth) who was ill anyway would not have won that game.

After half an hour RBL took complete control they just couldn't break down the Mainz low block but was to be expected. Teething problems.

RBL Matchday

First home game of the season, first home game (as boss) for Jesse Marsch, chance of redemption from Mainz & two American coaches going head-to-had in a big league which is quite something. The pressure is on immediately in the wake of the opening day defeat but Marsch has been playing down expectactions with the squad still coming together after the Euros and injuries. Club will be without Olmo (holiday), Henrichs (injury) and Halstenberg (injury) but everyone else is fit an available with the Euro players possibly getting starts after being name dropped in the presser (Klostermann, Gvardiol, Laimer, Poulsen).

The 4-2-3-1 vs Mainz really didn't work till it went more 4-2-2-2 second half so hopefully see more of that as well as much more intense pressing and faster build up play. Mukiele understandably benched after an absolute shocker on Sunday and Angelino nowhere to be seen (reported now to be a muscle injury).

Tough game against a decent Stuttgart side - expecting a score draw here myself.

Game is LIVE on the Sky Sports APP only in the UK @ 7.30pm

Why is Sabitzer not starting here? Seems fairly defensive with both Adam and Haidara?

Ah, ok. Really want Marsch to succeed so not happy to hear Sabitzer is going to be moving on…Any decent players expected to come in for replacements?

He’s only got 12 months on his deal and won’t sign a new one so they want money for him now. They’re well stocked in midfield but bit went in this week for wantaway Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba. City and Chelsea now sniffing though.
