Mate, if you are driving on the A5 autobahn from Karlsruhe to Basel allow plenty of time ! It is notorious for "stau" (multi mile long traffic jams) you could be lucky but I never have been. Also, be ready to hand over 40 Euros at the Swiss border for a motorway toll, it's a windscreen sticker valid for one year ffs !cant wait for bern now flying from manchester to eindhoven £45 then car hire stopping in karlsrue in germany on wed then ibis on match night then drive back up to eindhoven on friday all for the love of the toffees COYB
nice 1 mate thanks for the heads up how long from karlsruhe to bern then do you reckon ?? worst caseMate, if you are driving on the A5 autobahn from Karlsruhe to Basel allow plenty of time ! Good point about the sticker for anybody travelling by car & using a Swiss motorway. Apply to the Swiss Travel Centre in London (on line service) for a Motorway Vignette, costs £29 (?) & will be sent by post within a couple of days. Bung it on the windscreen. Saves possible delays queueing at the border If you get stopped (very good chance) without one there is a likelihood of a big fine!!!!Mate, if you are driving on the A5 autobahn from Karlsruhe to Basel allow plenty of time ! Three hours in normal free flowing traffic, allow four to be on the safe side, also depends on where you will be parking/staying in Bern.nice 1 mate thanks for the heads up how long from karlsruhe to bern then do you reckon ?? worst case

you can pay for everything in Euros in Bern anyway
There might be a minimal disadvantage in conversion

If you hire it on the Swiss side it will definately have the 40 Euro sticker on the windshield already, if you hire it on the French side you should ask if it is included, slight possibility it might. Are you planning on traveling through Europe for a while ? Otherwise just get the train from Basle to Berne, much easier and don't forget that the drink drive limit is a lot lower over there so one pint puts you over and next morning you still over after a few pints after the match. We're hiring a car at Basle airport but it's cheaper in the French side and we were going to get it there then drive into Swiss.
Should we just hire it on the Swiss side??
Will we then avoid this extra charge.
