Referees v Everton

Do you remember Paddy Daly? He was a detective on the north side. We were convinced he was a Bozo. In hindsight, he probably was fair.

The Hull game deserves a mention. No VAR in this one but Kevin Friend - supposedly a top Premier League referee - missed two blatant handballs in the penalty area, despite being well-placed to see both.

Decisions going against us clearly stick in the memory...but I'm struggling to think of any questionable calls that we have benefited from/got away with so far this season. I think Huddersfield had a goal ruled out in the Carabao Cup that was debatable - but even that came after Moise Kean had a goal chalked-off by a very tight offside decision.

Concrete proof that PL referees are worse than other leagues.
At what ratio of sand/ballast and water do you want this concrete proof made? Go and do your own research and see what the governing bodies think of this bunch, how many high profile games are they getting? How many tournament games do they get? Come back to me once you’ve got some info please.

Friend is literally one of the worst referees I've ever had the misfortune to see.

Talking about missing things, when was the ref at Palace away? About 3 minutes before they scored their 3rd goal, someone went in two footed on Coleman, red card all day. Not even a mention of it then at the end of the match they said "and VAR wasn't working today".

I honestly thought Colemans ankle had been snapped in half.

Ref against Palace was Andy Madley. Attwell was on VAR that day...

Think it was Benteke that went through Coleman. Similar to the challenge on Richarlison by Tarkowski. We didn't even get so much as a free-kick for either of them. Absolute joke.

Incidentally. Kevin Friend was on VAR duty for that Burnley game.

You’re dead right in most of what you say but miss one crucial thing: it also comes down to personalities, and in particular the personality of Riley at the top.

This is a man who I reckon is remembered by most as the dweeb, pooping himself surrounded by Jaap Stam, Gary Neville, Roy Keane and their mates. Looking like the weak school kid having his lunch money robbed off him again. Cowering.

This is the man at the top.

In rugby (I don’t watch any outside of six nations and world cups, so maybe they have their share of terrible refs too, but that’s beside the point, and I digress…)

In rugby, they use the replay system to say one of two things: either led by the ref “I’ve made my decision based on what I’ve seen with my eyes, tell me I’m definitely wrong” or, alternatively, led by the video ref “I’ve seen something you’ve missed (off the ball or whatever), take a look”.

That is strong and clear. That’s people doing their jobs with conviction and empowering officials to have the best possible chance of making the right decision as often as possible.

Sometimes, the decision might still be wrong, but under the framework of “prove me wrong” it can’t be changed, and EVERYONE knows where they stand.

Plus you get to hear the conversation because they have that conviction and clarity of roles, and there’s nothing to hide.

Why should our refs be afraid to be heard having the conversation about Allan’s yellow/red card?

The answer is simple. The man ultimately in charge at the top remembers being bullied by the bigger boys when he made decisions they didn’t like. It’s rubbish, and it’ll stay rubbish until better leadership is in place. That’ll probably never happen.
I thought the famous picture of them all screaming at the ref was to Andy D'Urso

I recall there used to be an assessor in the stands. The refs used to look upon them as the
" makers or breakers".
What happened to them?
The current breed seem arrogant in the face of criticism. That tit on Thursday was laughing with the Newcastle players after one dubious decision

I dont need to do any research .I'm not the one who said PL referees are the worst in the world .
If you make an absurd statement, surely you have to back it up ?

Coleman screams in pain and nothing is made of it. About 2 minutes later whwn he blasts that ball and costs us a goal, he's still badly limping from it

That's the issue we have, the players need to start making more of the situations. That Brentford one where its a blatant pen, not one player went to the ref, not even Rondon.

There used to be a referee, only did the Prem for about 4-5 years, and he’s the only ref I recall who was favourable to Everton, and he here us a few shocking decisions.

Roger East, loved him.

I didn’t mind Phil Dowd either. Sent off Lucas Leiva in the cup game in 09 against them at Goodison. Couldn’t believe my eyes that a red had the stones to actually do that then.

Compare and contrast with Calvert Lewin running through on goal at Anfield and Can Dijk wipes him out from behind with a diving lunge. Pen and red? Not even a VAR review. Would have been 2-2 and against ten then. Silva’s last game, might have saved him his job that one call.

The refs now are match fixing cheats.

To avoid any calls of corruption, based on club or gambling interference, bribes or blackmail VAR conversations should be broadcasted.
