Amazing: 36 previous PL games and we've had:

Oliver 5
Atwell 5
A Madley 4
Pawson 4

England 2
Moss 2
Atkinson 2
Coote 2
Tierney 2
Dean 2
Scott 2
Kavanagh 1

Brooks 1
Taylor 1
Friend 1

Taylor, allegedly one of the better ones nowhere near us. Half of our matches so far done by FOUR refs.
There ya go, Taylor the referee for Thursday. Well done!

I used to work with Pawson (he has another job as "Head of Strategic Partnerships" for a medical devices company, along with his refereeing) and he was a proper arrogant twunt.

It must be amazing to be a Premier League match official. You can literally single-handedly decide who wins or loses each game, and by doing so can contribute greatly to who wins the league and who gets relegated.

Imagine we need to beat Arsenal on Sunday and it's 0-0 in the 97th minute with 6 minutes added on. Ball goes into Arsenal's box and their defender handles it exactly as Rodri did at Goodison, everybody, absolutely everybody, in the stadium sees it and knows it's a carbon copy of the incident where the FA came out and apologised to Everton, yet if you're the official and you've ever had a disliking for us, or have family who are Leeds/Burnley fans, or have been getting dogs abuse by our fans, whatever, you're fully able to ignore the handball and nothing will come of you disregarding the rules and as a result us getting relegated.

Or if you're the VAR and have a bias against Everton and the referee does award the penalty, you're perfectly able to overturn the decision without explanation or repercussion.

I can see something like that happening, and yet another public apology from the FA and empty promises to improve VAR in the future, all of which would be far too late for us.

So both Keith Hackett and Dermot Gallagher both reckon it should have been a penalty before the sending off. Hackett has gone one further and said the Brentford player who gave away our penalty should have been sent off (two yellows).

"It all evens out by the end of the season" though, eh?
Has Dermot Gallagher actually come out and not backed the ref in this instance?!

RS match refs:

Dean 5 (hello Dad, fancy seeing you here!), Marriner, Taylor, Oliver, Moss 4 Atwell, Tierney 3 Pawson, Kavanagh, Atkinson 2 A Madley, Friend 1

Yes, a more balanced spread and, some might argue been given some of the so-called better refs. We have had the rubbish ones - too much Madley, Pawson for us.

The decision not to send Sorenson off for the penalty incident is a far worse decision in my opinion than the shirt-tug, which obviously should have been a penalty as well.

The penalty incident was a cynical, deliberate attempt to stifle a goalscoring opportunity for a player who was running clean through. If he was the last man he would have deserved a straight red for it but just because he had a teammate running near he somehow miraculously escapes with nothing. Thomas Frank knew he'd been given a gift from the football gods and swiftly took him off at half time.

That was a truly scandalous decision that. Simply the most cut and dry yellow card you're ever likely to see and the referee wasn't having any of it.

Cheats, plain and simple.

The media reaction to this game has been nothing short of laughable. We have actual pundits and referees claiming that grapple on Richarlison wasn't a foul. People are saying these things with a straight face.

Spurs got a VAR overturn yesterday for the most ridiculous handball you'll see. Yet we don't get one for someone having their shirt ripped off. And all the media seem to care about is Lampard getting a fine. If they charge Lampard again then we need to employ the best lawyers in the country and get the FA and PGMOL taken to the cleaners in court.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the evidence suggests that the media and the referees want us to go down. We've not been good enough, but the level of officiating in our games this season has been so bad that it's becoming difficult to put it just down to incompetence. If it's just incompetence then it's frightening how poor they have been and in the era with video replays.

It doesn't feel right at all. I feel sick to my stomach today.

I find it incredible that both Dermot Gallagher (Richarlison definite pen) and Hackett (Richarlison pen + a yellow for the one given) should be so forthright in their opinions.

Its a stark contrast to the shocking explanations / excuses given.

To get one of these decisions wrong is bad enough but to get two decisions wrong is scandalous. How are we constantly on the wrong end of these decisions? It’s kin rotten. We’re crap enough as a team but to be battling against inept officiating almost every week is near impossible to overcome. Like having both arms tied behind your back in a boxing match.

I'm sure you can add your own - for or against us:

Hudd Kean Red Card - CORRECT
Burnley home - no red card for disgusting foul by Tarkowski (I think) WRONG
Villa away - DOGSO on Gray - nothing given WRONG (0-0 at the time)
Norwich home - penalty - dubious after VAR consulted - in our favour
Man Utd - fouls on Gordon (I don't recall), Offside winner disallowed after VAR - CORRECT
Spurs - home - 10 minute review and penalty to Everton overturned - BIG SIX CALL - DUBIOUS
Brentford Away - Townsend handball - probably acceptable - CORRECT - Rondon shirt pulled - not even reviewed
NEWCASTLE away - Shelvey cleans out Gordon - no red card no VAR
Southampton away - foul NO PEN, handball NO VAR - WRONG
Man City home - Rodri handball - where do you even start?
NEWCASTLE HOME - Allan red card after VAR
Palace AWAY FA Cup - multiple reasons to review Palace goals. No VAR
West Ham - Keane immediately 2nd yellow for clumsy challenge
BURNLEY AWAY 2 Penalties via VAR - a bit soft but correct
LIVERPOOL Away - I'll just leave this here for you all to smoulder over
BRENTFORD - No penalty (subsequent red card incident), no 2nd yellow

I am saying it is not a conspiracy, they haven't met as a group or indeed with other interested parties and formulated a plan to cheat on behalf of the six top teams. I do not believe there is a cabal in operation.
However I do believe the current group of referees are not good enough to enact the rules of the game as they are currently being interpreted. I would love for them to be allowed to use their discretion, I would like to see them stamping out diving, I am a firm believer in a player being made to stand up, the rules of the game don't say it is a penalty if you are touched.
I would like to see all the holding that goes on from corners or free kicks into the box stamped out but it would appear the referees have been told to allow minor shirt pulling to go on in the interests of keeping the game flowing. If they gave a few penalties or free kicks when it happens players would quickly catch on. When referees are told that minor holding can go on we get the situation with Richy yesterday, the referee not only has to see the holding he then has to make up his mind is to whether it is significant or minor, today's referees aren't good enough to get those decisions right. Time for the authorities to cut their cloth etc. we don't have the calibre of people refereeing games to allow them the level of discretion they are currently being asked to do, time to go back to the simple rule when a foul is a foul. It is the same for VAR, they say they need it to be a clear and obvious mistake by the referee before they can intervene, again they are asking for discretion from people who do not have the ability or the fortitude to make those decisions.
As for top teams, they are going to get fewer decisions awarded against them as they have better players and better systems so they don't get caught out so often and have to foul. But more meaningfully they get the most coverage, have the most clout, and have more of their ex players acting as pundits. It is more difficult for referees to give things against them. Referees will be vilified in the media, the bigger clubs will use their influence against a referee who goes against them. It takes a braver man to give a penalty against Liverpool than it does against Everton. Unfortunately we don't have those brave men refereeing, they are cowards.
No conspiracy just inability and cowardice.

This is the bigger problem imo
If the decisions against us were against the top 6 the media would be all over it and the refs would be somewhat more accountable but as it's us, the media don't want to highlight it, they focus on everything but because why badmouth the 'beautiful game' that butters their bread when it's just an also ran like Everton. I think Lampard should slate them, whats the worst that could happen? a series of charges and fines? That would definitely highlight it more. Relegation could cost us far more than a series of fines and if we go we need to go pointing that finger and screaming. They just want us to be silent and shrug our shoulders with the clearly false 'adage' of 'these things even out over the course of a season' bs

World Cup 2018 had abar 20 pens given for shirt pulling via VAR. Now they're not arsed.
