Almost (but not) buying a house in 2002 for €160,000 just at the start of the boom, 4 bedrooms, it was in a nice area, I'd near have it paid off by now but I backed out just before drawing down the mortgage, a house in the same estate sold recently for €455,000..

Neglecting getting professional dental care for my teeth from my mid teens until relatively recently. (Basically 35+years of nothing besides cursory poke around annually whilst in the RAF over 25 years ago.)

As a small child I had a proper horrid NHS dentist. (Yes! You could pretty much walk in and get an appointment with one the same day or the next!) I had such a bad experience with her it caused genuine trauma in me.

Anyway, I kept up with cleaning etc and had no issues at all until early 50s. My Wisdom teeth (still in, obvs) in my lower jaw where still growing at a ridiculous angle (I'll try and find a pic of the x-ray) and caused cracks in both adjacent teeth. Result? Two wisdom teeth pulled and two root canals and crowns fitted to the adjacent/damaged molars.

My upper wisdom teeth grew at a correct angle but crowded my upper jaw making several teeth overlap. I basically have 4 teeth crammed into space for 3. I'm starting to get pain in one of the uppers next to the wisdom teeth so the dentist is saying they may need to pull that one over the wisdom teeth that seem fine. It will also make a bit of space for the orthodontist to realign my wonky uppers .

My teeth and gums are generally fine, just the neglect has come back to bite me (hahaha!) in recent years.

So.....

1) Find a dentist who isn't a knobhead
2) Use a water flosser. Once you get the hang of it and don't pressure wash your bathroom they're amazing. (A 20 quid version does just as good a job as a 300 quid model)
Got stuck at no. 1.

Removed both my right side wisdom teeth because the lower decided it will basically destroy the nerves in the tooth while being so brittle that a normal dentist tried to remove it and it just snapped in half while the upper was growing towards the back of my mouth and pushing the teeth next to it.

Removed them via operation - took 30 min, general anesthesia, my back also didn't hurt for a while, good times.

Now my left side have started going and I can feel it, so will have to redo the op again probably. Honestly CBA doing those things at dentists - fillings and stuff I've had done, I have always had a decent dentist, but it's just horrid with the machines whirring and all ffs.

Yeah, I think the noise filtering through to the waiting area adds to people's anxiety.

I'm so pleased I've found a good dentist now, luckily there's a well respected dental university 30 mins away and the Faculty run a practice to 'keep their hand in' away from the classroom.

As it's part of the Uni there's no massive surcharges and such making it laughably cheap. (If you're a proper minge you can opt to go into the student run practice but no chance I'm doing that)

They tell me that a LOT of their work these days is fixing disasters in people who've been and had a set of turkey teeth fitted over the weekend. Absolute horror shows.
