Mark my words, we will be relegated unless this incompetent manager goes. Playing it safe is only forgiveable if you get a result, doing it and still getting beat easily is just ridiculous

We have no earthly right to still be in the PL to be honest, so I see this season as a free hit for him.

The reason we are now relegation strugglers nowadays is nothing to do with managers. Anyone who thinks we can go get a new manager and all our problems magically disappear, is seriously deluded.

Until the board and owner are gone nothing will improve. Until we have proper leadership from the top of the club, we will continue to make mistakes in strategy and recruitment.

Turn your frustration on the board and then we can have meaningful change. Until then, nothing will change.

Last year we were in a relegation scrap with a team who created little and conceded soft goals. By and large we have stopped conceding soft goals but still create very little. We haven’t scored twice in a game all season. It’s going to be another relegation battle I fear.

We’ve only conceded more than one goal 3 times which isn’t bad at this stage of the season. If we can improve the attack even slightly, it will give us a much better chance in games as we’ve been in with a chance in virtually every game going into the last 10 minutes. We needed 3 or 4 in a game to get anything for quite a bit of last season. If it goes back to that type of thing, it would be a big worry.

Find it interesting that we’ve played 12 games (11 League, 1 cup) and neither team in any of our games has scored more than 2.

Im wondering how many people thought after surviving relegation, we should be winning away matches against teams who will be in europe?

Seems a good number. Losing matches to teams in the top 7 spots on the table is almost meaningless to the season. Its the next 5 matches that matter. If we are still in trouble after that, then you can talk about a relegation fight. Until then this team is in a much better place than last season.

Not sure they are in a significantly better position than a year ago. Defense is better but offense is worse. They are on pace to score under 30 goals. That scoring ineptitude will be hard to maintain, but they will be in the heart of the relegation battle if they don't improve that pretty soon.

Have to keep in mind that we're a quarter of the way through the season and our primary striker and main goalscorer has started only 1 game. The first four was it we played without any attacking option beyond Rondon and Alli. We've got a favourable run coming up, DCL building match fitness and possible business to be done in January. We wont score a lot, but it'll be enough to avoid any real relegation risk.

We haven’t only played 3 games though, we’ve played 11. You can’t write off games homes and away against the top 7 if you don’t make up the shortfall elsewhere. So far we haven’t done that (or looked like it), hence the conversation. Hopefully we win the next couple and this thread sinks into oblivion but at the moment it’s not unreasonable to be talking about it.

…..it’s begging to look like last season but not having Benitez is a major advantage.

Yesterday's team had Pickford, Coleman, Mykolenko, Iwobi, Gray, Gordon and DCL in it. 7 players who all played their part in nearly taking us down.

It's going to be a long process, gonna take a couple of transfer windows and some wheeling and dealing and we really will have to be patient.

There's a better spine in the team for sure and we are staying in games for better without capitulation but Lampard will know the forward options need some major rebuilding work and he'll be fuming at the midfields lack of cohesion the last couple of games.
