Yesterday's team had Pickford, Coleman, Mykolenko, Iwobi, Gray, Gordon and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in it. 7 players who all played their part in nearly taking us down.

It's going to be a long process, gonna take a couple of transfer windows and some wheeling and dealing and we really will have to be patient.

There's a better spine in the team for sure and we are staying in games for better without capitulation but Lampard will know the forward options need some major rebuilding work and he'll be fuming at the midfields lack of cohesion the last couple of games.

….spot on. Coady/Tarkowski and Onana/Gueye have certainly improved us but think Lampard’s unsure of the right blend in CM. looks like he’s keen on introducing Garner but unsure where he fits.

Patterson will be a plus on last season but Attacking options have to be addressed in January.

If you finish 16th, then sell your only good attacker for 60m and then spend the money on other positions, then you will be lucky to stay up.

Our recruitment plan in the summer was fundamentally flawed. We decided to rely on a constantly injured player and sign a Brighton back up. At some point you get relegated when you continually make this many senseless and illogical decisions.

Now I still dont think we will go down this year, but I think we are going to go through the stress and anxiety of it again and it didn't have to be like this and it shouldn't have been like this.
It does feel like we are currently in a gradual decline that will eventually end us with up not getting out of it one year if we aren’t careful.

Under Ancelotti I had high hopes for Europe, that seems a million miles off now.

Big four games until the World Cup then we have to get more goal threat up top - needs upgrades on grey and gordon.

Patterson makes us a far better unit and yes Garner needs to be in the side as he looks like he wants to play quicker and is always on the spin. Onana is going to be wildly inconsistent due to his age but offers a real threat when travelling with the ball. That leaves either Gueye or Iwobi as one who should be dropped.

Iwobi has been absolutely dreadful thr last two games, wasn't up for any kind of scrap last night and had lost his own person battle within about 10 minutes of the match.

Thr players really need to look at that centre half pairing and the chemistry they have and how vocal they are and say to themselves "I need to have more of that and demand more of that from myself"

I just feel like we had an opportunity to go out and sign some quality to replace Richarlison and made a real mess of it. If we had signed a good goalscorer rather than Gueye and McNeil, we would be in a far better position.

We haven’t only played 3 games though, we’ve played 11. You can’t write off games homes and away against the top 7 if you don’t make up the shortfall elsewhere. So far we haven’t done that (or looked like it), hence the conversation. Hopefully we win the next couple and this thread sinks into oblivion but at the moment it’s not unreasonable to be talking about it.

It’s not the results against the last 3 but the performances that are most concerning. Performance levels have declined each game, we are getting worse. Outside of maybe Forest, I don’t think there’s another team in the league that wouldn’t have created more than us last night. We stay in games due to our defence and the way we set up but going forward we are an embarrassment. Once we went a goal down it was effectively game over.

Yeah I agree. That's why I find the 'it's been 3 tough games' line annoying, because these things were happening before that too. We're 11 games into the season and I don't think there has been one game where you would come away saying 'we were clearly better than them'. That's concerning.

I don't want to overplay it because it's game 12 in late October, but we really need a result on Saturday. If we lose another game, and a home game against a team we expect to be in and around, then I worry that the wheels could really fall off.

We need to win our home games because our away form is not good enough and can't be relied on. We need a big performance, and we all need to stick with the side. It doesn't matter how we do it, but we need points on the board. This team has a certain softness about it and I worry things could spiral out of control again. The players need to step up and show that they want it far more than their opponent. Yes we have a big problem with quality, but we need to play to our strengths and use Goodison to our advantage.

We'd better beat Palace, that's all I can say.

I dont know how we do that, but if we dont then the slide is underway to the bottom of this league.

I really wouldn't bet right now against us reaching the WC at the bottom of the PL table.

If you dont score you dont survive...and we look like we can play for hours and never trouble a GK.
