Relegation Fight 2014/2015

Martinez joining has really taken the sting out of the Everton fanbase. Under Moyes we weren't content with 'best of the rest'. We were complaining about transfers, complaining about the stadium, complaining at the league position and the style of football. We expected to beat all top sides at home, and got annoyed we didn't beat them away. Now even though we're driving towards relegation, the new manager phenomenon has just given Bill another few years of easy ride before we get back to that level of frustration again. This has been an absolutely woeful domestic campaign yet there seems to be a lot of 'oh well least we're not relegated, lets see what happens next year'. We've dropped our standards in line with the teams failures on the pitch.

This really is embarrassing, Everton fans arguing about whether we can get 9 or 10 points from 13 games to stay in the Premiership. We are amongst teams who had much lower expectations than us and some of them as have made changes while we persist with the same mistakes. Somehow our expectations have been managed. Success is no longer a Champions League place, it is not getting relegated.

Sadly, portion of the fans are content with survival in PL .We should be pushing for 4th, if not fighting 5th to 7th the minimum. Alright I know the manager had done well last season but going from 5th to 12th with the best squad in two decades is unacceptable.

Very acceptable unfortunately to many. Operation "kill expectations' by Bill and the posse has worked wonders.

It reminds of Moyes 2nd season in charge never really in danger of going down but just a little too close for comfort.

Exactly how I feel about it all.

As long as we survive (which I'm sure we will) we'll be back to challenging for fourth next season.

If we win Europa we'll forget this even happened :)

Don't be daft. Who has said going from 5th to 12th is acceptable? I challenge you to find me one post where anyone has written that going from 5th to 12th is acceptable.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that at the start of the season, most people's expectations were that we would finish in the top 4. Which doesn't sound to me like expectations have been killed

Expectations were capped from pre season onwards. We didn't really strengthen from last season, we just retained what we had.

It's the new Everton way, the word momentum has no place here, was done under Moyes and now again.

That very poor pre season killed off aspirations quite early, had we struggled in Europe then Bobby Martini would have been gone before christmas.

Biggest problem is we are getting to a peffect storm situation, back end of season and no real signs of any change in approach

We moan at Kopites for thinking they have a god given right to things in football, yet half of you think we have a god given right to remain in the league, let me tell you something, every team around us is fighting for survival, we are just plodding along like 'yeah we should be safe though' there is no guarantees in football.

Even the most hardened RM fan secretly sits there 'hoping' he turns it around, yet the same people have no answer as to how martinez is changing things to get results. Howard being number 1 again is prime example. 4-4-1-1 every game = predictable. Choosing Alcatrastophe over Distin being another, no matter how bad Buzz has been Antolin is utter dog turd.

There is still every chance that we can achieve the unlikely this season - finishing ahead of Stoke. I am confident that a lot of the angst currently percolating so many GOT threads will, if that lofty ambition be achieved, recede into distant memory

It's the key to understanding why Martinez is safe as houses this season. BK just wants PL safety, the cash rolling in from it to keep the plate spinning and (possibly above all) a bit of peace and quiet with no fan protests about lack of progress etc,

This is exactly it mate IMHO. The continuing increases in tv money paper over the cracks of a horribly managed business where most of the non-tv income is growing slightly but nowhere near as much as every other club who benefits from the same pot of tv money. BK & Co are playing roulette in the casino with someone else's money and sooner or later the credit line will run out or they'll run out of luck. I don't think it'll be this season but it will happen and when it does we will not have invested any of what we've had in building stable sources of income and assets for the club.
