For spending ? I’m not sure they were. Pretty sure Portsmouth/Bolton were punished for being in administration, not profit/loss rules.

It was before FFP/Profit and sustainability was actually a thing to be fair but they were still punished by the football league upon relegation from the Premier League.

This seasons fixtures have fallen in the worst possible order for us.

Burnley play Villa directly after Villa ( who need 1 win ) play Norwich at home.Chances are Villa will be on the beach therefore after securing safety and then have to play Burnley again.

They also have Watford directly after Watford play away at City who will effectively relegated them.

Newcastle last game at home with the geordies on beach also.

The only hope we have is Wolves this weekend as they won't get anything at Spurs.

So if Burnley win on Sunday I think we are down 90% of the time.

Our fixtures

Liverpool - lose / no reason needed
Chelsea- lose / top 4 still critical for them
Watford - draw / lose / t's away from home
Brentford - Win
Leicester - lose / away form
Palace - draw no pressure on them
Arsenal - loss / going for top 4 possibly and we never win there normally

We're goosed if Burnley beat Wolves.

What annoys me most of all is the not only purchase of bad players that has got us into the mess but the money and wages spent in players who’ve contributed little or nothing.
Tosun 27m
Delph 8.5m
Gomes 22.5 m
Patterson 10m
Niasse 13m
Sandro 5m
Klassen 24m
That’s over 100m largely wasted on players who have barely played for the club. No wonder we are in the financial mess we are.
A fair list, except the inclusion of Patterson is a bit harsh. I don’t think at age 20 he was expected to immediately replace Coleman, but rather be eased into the side. It’s been only three months and I expect he will play a large role in the years ahead, he was a purchase for the future.

The season was 38 games long.
We played every one home and away .
If you go down it's all on yourself

So Burnley will beat Villa and Newcastle because they're on the beach, yet this won't affect Palace as there's no pressure on them?

Wolves are still in with a chance of Europe, Southampton went through the motions as an obligation to play fixtures but Wolves will be serious about it

If we go down, that's enough of a catastrophe for me. I'm not going to worry additionally about finances and the stadium.

I'll need the summer off from us if the worst happens. I think The Championship begins on July 30th so I'd check in that week and see who we are playing, the rest of the fixtures, who the manager is, and what team we are in a position to put out.

Can't be doing with pre-season and weeks of misery against the backdrop of relegation and all that I'm afraid. Take a break from it and then come back ready for the new season come what may.

If we stay up, I think even with very restricted spending, we can still improve if recruitment is right. I'm inclined to think it's 40/60 that we will stay up now though unfortunately.

You just said Burnley walk over Watford because they’re already relegated yet we lose or draw? Then you said Burnley beat Villa and Newcastle because they’re on the beach yet when we play Palace we draw because there’s no pressure on them?

Honestly people are finding ways to saw we’re down when it’s still very much in our hands. Burnley are not suddenly a good team because they played well in one match, just like us beating United or Newcastle recently didn’t set us onto a run.

We’re well and truly in a battle, but we’re still a point ahead with a game in hand… it’s close, our games are arguably a bit harder, but our players are arguably a bit better too… there certainly aren’t many I’d swap for Burnley players!

He suffering from "no one who play Burnley will give a toss, but everyone we play will give 100%" syndrome...it's oddly quite common.
I’ve enjoyed the recent ‘everyone playing us will want us to go down because we’re more of a threat to them next season’ theory, as if managers haven’t been complaining about how horrible playing Burnley’s thugs every season is.
Much like when Stoke dropped, nobody will miss not going to Burnley next season!

Maybe other clubs do give 100% everytime they play but we're use too seeing ours not give a toss, I dunno, I don't think we can rely on ourselves, Sunday is going to be agony, least we are the last game so it won't ruin the whole weekend

Agree...and players always put a solid shift in to send teams down on the final day, which is why we stayed up in 94 and 98.

I imagine this place will be crazy after our anticipated, but not certain, defeat Sunday. In my view it won’t change anything in the bigger picture, apart from the obvious disappointment. Whilst it would be nice to take something from the RS our destiny lies in the games following the Derby. Win two of them and I think we will stay up

They do give a toss though, otherwise we wouldn't have beaten Utd, Newcastle and grab as last gasp draw with Leicester. It's the standard of football that's mostly been letting us down.
