Relegation

Sadly you are right. We wouldn’t be in the same situation that Leeds were in when they went down in the early 2000s.

Things would be much worse.

Relegation is unthinkable.

Leeds were still in financial meltdown even when they went down and for years after.

What Leeds did that nearly ruined them that we must avoid is selling high earners but agreeing to still pay a percentage of their wages.

In some cases Leeds sold players to Premier League teams once relegated but agreed to pay 50% of their wages still. In a few cases this was over the course of the contract the player signed with the new club. Some contracts had been 5 years long.

It was absolute lunacy but then again it was probably the only way they could get rid of high earners.

It's called a firesale. Rather than selling Richarlison for 50m pounds, he would go for 25m because people know has has to go to stay within the rules.

You need leverage, the idea that you will not sell for any price, basically what Swansea did to us for Siggy.
There’s no way stay up or go down we will sell Richarlison for 25m, DCL will go for less than we hoped for simply because he isn’t that good. But if we go down the likes of as Richy,Pickford will getting decent transfer fees.

I wish I had your confidence. If we go down we’ll be desperate and other clubs will know it. We are in a uniquely dire situation in terms of wages and potentially falling foul of fair play rules.

Aside from the obvious reasons for staying up...it would be a slap in the face to both the referees and the RS media.

The absolute state of these refereeing decisions and constant negativity in the media around the club hopefully has a positive effect on the squad.

We need to get a result at Chelsea, another at Leicester and a third at Watford.

At least 6pts needed from those 3 which could see us catch Leeds and be ahead of Burnley.

Any more and we should be flying.

Funny how loads are saying we’ll beat Chelsea but when Leeds play them they will get zero points even though they play them days before the Cup Final.

Has anyone said we will beat Chelsea? Haven’t looked, but certainly haven’t seen “loads” saying that. Do you mean loads are saying we “can” beat them, or we “have to” beat them? Because they’re both incredibly different.

There's no reason we can't go and win all of our remaining games. We just need someone who can actually put the ball in the back of the net. I'd play Rondon, he's experienced enough that if gets chances he will take them.

I don’t think Chelsea is must win, but we’re approaching that stage. A point at least starts a bit of a run and starts to build confidence after a decent performance in the derby. This is key with a run of games where we should be able to pick up points like Burnley have done recently.

For those saying Chelsea are vulnerable , not playing well etc they have the second best away record in the league . It’s a must win game but it’s against one of the strongest sides in the league who will more than likely be able to confirm there CL qualification with a win on Sunday .

They scraped past West Ham at the weekend. The win is there for us but it’s whether we can take it or not.

Tbh I’d take a point against Chelsea and I’m sure the rest of us would too.
