Polishing a turd.

He made all the wrong choices and only rectified them by bringing Gordon and Allan on - not at HT - 10 minutes into the second half. Stevie Wonder watching that first half could see what was needed before HT, nevermind at HT and beyond.

The shape of the team was appalling and made a ropey Villa look like Barcelona.

Stop defending this inexperienced cone layer.

He's had 5 games in charge of Everton and won one game.

5 games against Chelsea, United, Leicester, Arsenal, Villa. Lost 1.

Yet you defended a manager for 6 months who went on one of worst losing streaks in the club's history

No reason why we shouldn’t. I thought that the problem was all Benitez and that these players would push the top 6 with a bit of coaching?

Why do you keep claiming these things that nobody has ever said?

Yesterday was a definite improvement but everybody knows these players are crap. They should never be below Brentford and in a relegation battle though.

‘Everyone knows these players are crap’

Erm that’s not what some people have been arguing for a long time this season. In fact, it sounds a lot like what I’ve been saying for the past few years.

I’m beginning to think that maybe relegation is what this club truly needs right now. I never thought I’d think this way, but this entire club and fan base has become a toxic mess.

I don’t go the match anymore as a) The quality of football is crap and had been for years and b) the level of hate, malice, and division within the fanbase is too much to take.

Maybe a fresh start is what’s required? A new young ambitious manager with a progressive footballing philosophy. New young exciting players. A new professional board and executive team running the club. A new scouting and recruitment policy and most importantly a unified fan-base once again.

Would relegation be the end of us or just the start of us?
The end. We'd be crippled by our finances and docked points. We could easily become a Derby or even a Sunderland.

Read the player threads. People had low expectations this season (I remember Everton fans polling as the most pessimistic of any team pre season) but feck me, Benitez was nowhere near even meeting them.

Benitez failed miserably. I wanted to give him time, but that only works when the vast majority of fans are prepared to do the same and his results make it possible to keep that coalition of moderates together. One win in 13 was unsustainable. He failed. The warning signs for me were when he targeted the likes of Rodriguez (fine in itself) but continued to play Iwobi, Gomes, and Coleman. He needed to get rid of the failures with as much gusto as he did the expensive. The Watford collapse and result was a sackable offence in itself.

Now, we are in a whole world of pain. Our next managerial appointment is a huge gamble. I'd favour an experienced manager over the untried and untested sentimental choices that so plague our club, but even Mourinho himself - one of the all time great managers with a glorious CV - would be a massive risk in our situation. In that sense, I think I'll take a back seat on this appointment as I think there's no obviously right appointment even if I believe there are plenty of obviously wrong ones.

4 out of 5 of those games were at home...and the only one's that weren't ropey at the time of playing them were Chelsea.

The feller is not good enough to take this job on.

Get him out and a permanent in before Brentford.

We just about beat Huddersfield and hull and lost to QPR. That shows our squad is championship level, we would probably lose against the top four Inthe championship.

We need to get DCL and Richarlison fit and then get the ball to them at every opportunity. That’s the only viable strategy in my opinion.
That, and pray Mina stays fit.

Agree with all of this

They both played 90 mins and didn't register a shot on target

Playing 2 inside foot wingers won't work with them
