Newcastle went down with 9 wins and 37 points in 15/16, but overall 35+ points seems safe, with some teams managing survival with 7 wins only the last 8 years.

I don't know Dave. To go that hard at United at home with that crowd and go 2 down and get it to 2-2 and continue to lose 4-2

Thats gonna be a gut wrencher for their players.

Their defence is a total mess too, its arguably worse than ours, they are forever in 6s and 7s

Their next games are Liverpool, Spurs and Leicester - Similar to us I guess

They're not cut out for a relegation battle with the way the Bielsa plays and how bad their defence is.

The better teams pick them off and they were well beaten at Goodison last week.

Let's also be honest about this (and honesty is what we need at this point in time) the fact that our supporters have not got behind a manager for a large chunk of this season has contributed to where we are right now. Outsiders to the club would have no problem in observing that. Most got behind Benitez and gave him a chance; many many others refused to do that and when the results were turning poor their impact was enormous in affecting the way the majority of Evertonians felt about the season and the manager.

We have to be big enough to recognise that as a major issue for where we are now if we're to use the rest of the season to get behind these dossers in blue shirts to get them over the line. There has to be a mea culpa here because it's a big dimension to this predicament.

There's a lot of blame to go around here.

Moshiri
The board
Players
Manager
Certain fans

...in that order.
Where we are now has been six years in the making……….

Moshiri - The appointment of Benitez was the culmination of some awful footballing decisions, but for BMD he would be the focus of a whole lot more anger from the fans!
The board - Long term incompetence, they should have been replaced within 12 months of Moshiri buying the club!
Players - Terrible recruitment initially by Martinez, then doubled down on by the Koeman/ Walsh saga! Largely a bunch of characterless bottle jobs on ridiculous length expensive contracts who are happy go through the motions and not to play (in some cases!) to just pick up their over inflated wages packets!
Manager - Benitez was a shocking appointment which should never have happened, and is the final reason we are where we are today! If any one had said to me 10 years ago Everton FC would be managed by Allardyce and Benitez in the not too distant future I’d have laughed in their face!
Certain fans - Proper genuine fans only want what’s best for the football club, to see a degree of competence at board level, and see players who give their all on the pitch and actually want to play for the club and aren’t just perceived as a money grabbing mercenaries who go through the motions just to see their contracts out? People who in anyway “blame” the fans for the predicament we are in are way off target!

They ran rings around man u for the first 45 minutes orso yesterday, without bamford (18 pm goals 19/20)and philips. Leeds have a good run coming up in march and 2 winnable games later on against watford and brentford. If they get Bamford back I can see them getting the points needed tostay up.

They'll probably get out of it and are 5 clear of the drop so losing the next 2 should still keep them clear. If they end up in the bottom 3 though I think it'll be difficult for them to get themselves out of it.

I suppose it's very similar to us really. About the same position, good attacking quality, big club, partisan home crowd can roar team on but are too easy to score against.

What are you on about? They were 2-0 down at half time and hadn’t been in the game..

They only played well for like 20 mins at the start of the second half, and conceded 4 goals. They are struggling defensively and have let in 3, 3 & 4 in their last 3 games.

My fear for the rest of the season is if we persevere with DCL whilst he's still trying to find his form, now is not the time

I'm no DCL hater albeit I don't rate him as high as some, but when Gray is back it simply must be him, Richie and Gordon up top with license to do their own thing.

None of them look the same when in reality their mission is to lay it on a plate for Dom.

Yes, DCL's hold up play can at times be impressive, I also liked his willingness to constantly run the channels although the latter has reduced a lot recently.

I fear we we will need to score more than one to win a lot of the games coming up, and maybe more that one to get a draw such are the frailties in defence.
I don't believe we can carry a player, especially a player who the tactics to some extent are built around to get us out of this hole, it's just not right at this time.

Give him the City game and let's see how he is then, but I reckon having him on the bench as a possible game changer is shrewder than playing him whilst not scoring, it affects are other goal scorers.

Still I think their wage bill is 19th of the premier league? We are a much bigger club financially and shouldnt be nea rthem, but here we are. :)
