My issue with Ancelotti was not that he didn't do a good job with what was available, but that the job he did was not progressing us as a club in any way, and so he was contributing to the mess we now find ourselves in. I said a lot last year that spending the money we did on James, Allan and Doucoure was a risk that would only really work out if we had 'success' in the short term, but we didn't and so it was bad business. He's clearly a great manager, everyone knows that, but what's happened this year doesn't change my mind about what has gone on before. He wasn't the right appointment for us and the decisions he made are impacting where we are as a club now.

I wouldnt disagree with that. I was hoping ancelloti would just make the club an attractive one by the time he left.
He didnt want doucoure either. Think doucoure said recently, he(ancelotti) told him he more or less hadnt even heard of him.

A few years ago Liverpool were in a title race with city in which they ultimately come up short by like 2-3 points having a record number of points for second place, during the title chase Liverpool played Barcelona away they played well but lost 3-0 to messi magic. a couple of days before the second leg city played Leicester they were drawing until kompany of all people thumped a 30 yard screamer into the Top Corner winning it for city, bearing in mind a draw would’ve handed the advantage to Liverpool so it was a huge goal in terms of the title race effectively sealing it for city. You could say Liverpool had an excuse to sorry for themselves after that blow they only had to face the mighty Barcelona 3-0 down, well they beat them 4-0 en route to winning the champs league and then winning the prem the following year. Why do I say this? Well hearing that nonsense that everything is against Everton made me think of It, every team has moments and decisions etc go against them it’s how they respond this attitude that everything is against them is just a lazy mentality. I have no doubt that some Everton players probably feel like this but who knows. way I see it Everton are in the position they are in because of extremely poor decision making from the owner and poor transfers from the recruitment team. it’s a combo destined for failure, blaming refs media and all that may be some form of copium for you but I’m sorry the reality is Everton are a poor side and are run even more poorly.
Couldn't stay away could you collywobbles/everthegobshite-imist.

Post loads (of excrement.)

When he came in our Midfield consisted of Davies, Gomes, and Siggurdson. Our attack consisted of Walcott, Iwobi, Richarlison, Dom.

The first thing he did was bolster the midfield and add some quality in the final 3rd with Doucoure, Allan, and James. Brands brought in Godfrey.

Ancelotti wasn't here long enough to take another step to bolster key areas. We already know he spoke to Mykolenko and was always linked with Koulibaly. Patterson was also on Brands radar so to me that says he was looking at defence going into the summer.

That was on top of keeping Digne and James.
As I said, addressing the midfield with such short term thinking has contributed to this mess because we spent £50m upgrading the midfield but 2 years later it still isn't fit for purpose and neither of the players we signed have any resale value. It was a gamble, had we finished 7th and qualified for Europe there would be an argument it had paid off, but as we finished 10th and are now 17th there really isn't.

Impossible not to be worried right now, it’s so depressing right now. The only thing I can cling onto is that even this season we’ve tended to do OK against the “bigger” teams. We got a draw away at Chelsea, draw away at Old Trafford, beat Arsenal at home, should have at least got a draw vs City at home. Clutching at straws here, but I dunno what else to do

We missed it by 3 points and a goal difference swing.

Id say its poor management to take that and turn it to a relegation team than Ancelotti's poor recruitment.

Again, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Benitez was an absolute car crash but that doesn’t change what I’m saying, and failing by 3 points is still failing in the context of a gamble.

Everton are in big, big trouble. Frank Lampard is not improving them, meaning relegation is a real possibility this season, with the Infogol model giving them a 27.3% chance of going down, and the only reason it is that low is because of their games in hand.
% chance relegation

Since Lampard took over early in February, Everton have been the joint-worst attacking team in the league (0.87 xGF per game), the third worst defensive team (1.96 xGA per game) and collected the second fewest xP per game (0.82). Not good.
In contrast, Newcastle are seriously on the up, pushing Chelsea all the way in a 1-0 defeat that ended their nine game unbeaten run.
Since Boxing Day, Eddie Howe's side have ranked as the eighth best team based on xG process (1.46 xGF, 1.29 xGA per game) and ninth best on xP per game, highlighting their turnaround.
These two teams met early on in Newcastle's good run, in what was Lampard's first league game in charge, and the Magpies hammered the Toffees 3-1. I fancy them to do the league double and heap more pressure on Everton.

Yes. I understand people wanting to look back at Ancelotti misty-eyed because of what came afterwards, but his season was an absolute disaster in the context of things. Paying James Rodriguez £200k a week and buying 30 year old Allan for £20m to finish 10th has contributed to our finances being in the sorry state they are.
